Our report on 2022 Saint Emilion is divided into three parts because there were so many wines we tasted. We are quite thorough with 162 different 2022 St. Emilion wine tasting notes, which is why a single article was overwhelming with so many wines. As you can see, Part 1 are wines A-E, Part 2 features wines F-L and Part 3 finishes with wines M-Z. All of the following 2022 St. Emilion wines were tasted in Bordeaux in April. Most of the wines were tasted at the property. However, a few of the wines were tasted at Negociants, Consultants or with trade groups. Whenever possible the wines were tasted more than once.

As you will see from my tasting notes, due to a combination of climatic conditions, changes in farming practices, better knowledge of the vineyards and how to handle extreme vintages, there are producers at all ends of the spectrum that made the best wines in the history of their vineyard!

2022 Saint Emilion Tasting Notes Part 2 – Wines F-L …

2022 Faugeres – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Black fruit, flowers, chocolate, plums, and mocha shine in the nose. The palate displays more of those lusciously-textured, black cherries, plums, and chocolate. The wine is rich, creamy, long and sweet, with vibrancy, energy, and a touch of savory herbs on the backend. The wine blends 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14.5% ABV. Drink from 2024-2045. 92-94 Pts

2022 Figeac – St. Émilion Grand Cru – It takes nothing to sense all the intensity, freshness, and depth here. But, more importantly, it is the character. The wine is sensuous, sultry, and lively. The fruits are drenched in cashmere, and velvet that caresses your palate. The levels of depth, richness, opulence, and vibrancy must be felt to be believed. The finish, with its seemingly endless waves of black, blue, and red fruits, with their natural spiciness and purity is off the hook. The seamless finish looks at the 60 second mark, and keeps on going! This is the first vintage for Chateau Figeac as Premier Cru Classe A. With this wine, it is clear they deserve it. The wine blends 35% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc, and 31% Cabernet Sauvignon. 8% Press wine. 14% ABV, 3.7 pH. Picking took place September 1 – September 26. This is the earliest harvest in the history of Figeac. Yields were 34 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2027-2065. 98-100 Pts

2022 Fleur Cardinale – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Dark in color, the wine is rich, concentrated, dense, lush, and packed with toasty oak, black plums, licorice, and espresso. Sweet, long, and round, with a chocolate covered black cherry filled finish. The blend is 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.7% ABV. All that extra Cabernet in the vineyards and in the wine really makes a difference adding more freshness, complexity, and individuality. Drink from 2025-2042. 94-96 Pts

2022 Fleur Cardinale Croix Cardinale – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Medium-bodied, soft, silky, and fresh, with sweetness, and lift to the red cherries, and plums on the supple, textured palate. There is fruit, and freshness in the finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 91-93 Pts

2022 Fleur de Lisse – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Medium-bodied, light, fresh, red berry oriented wine with soft textures and a savory edge in the finish. Drink from 2025-2032. 86-88 Pts

2022 Fombrauge – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, leafy herbs, chocolate covered plums, espresso, licorice and cherries create the perfume. Medium/full-bodied, round, and polished, the wine is already showing its layers of black cherries, and chocolate coated blackberries on the mid-palate and in the long, fruit-filled, polished finish. With its lush style, this will be approachable on release. The wine blends 71% Merlot and 29% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2023-2042. 92-94 Pts

2022 Fonbel – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Ruby in color, the wine shows a perfume of plums, flowers, and spice before you get to the medium-bodied, fresh, vibrant palate with its spicy red fruit profile and peppery spice note that comes in at the end of the finish. The wine was made from a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Carmenere. Drink from 2025-2038. 91-93 Pts

2022 Fonplegade – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Initially you notice flowers, and crushed rocks before moving on to all the black raspberries, licorice, cherries, and background note of orange blossoms in the perfume. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine is soft, pure, and fresh, with a sweetness to the fruits, silkiness to the tannins and a touch of chocolate-mint, sea salt and espresso in the endnote. Made from a blend of 85% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% ABV, pH 3.7. The harvest took place September 12 – September 26. Yields were 35 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2026-2047. 94-96 Pts

2022 Fonroque – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, and spice grab your attention before you find the fresh, finesse styled, crisp red berries on the palate, with their purity, vibrancy and softness in their texture. The only drawback here is its lack of length. Perhaps with a bit of aging, the wine will gain more on the backend. Drink from 2025-2037. 90-92 Pts

2022 Fontfleurie – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Medium-bodied, floral, cherry-filled, soft, supple, fruity wine with a licorice accent for early drinking consumption. Drink from 2025-2029. 86-88 Pts

2022 Franc La Rose – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Soft, polished, and creamy, with ripe black cherries and licorice, round-textures and a fruity character from start to finish. Drink from 2025-2032. 89-91 Pts

2022 Franc-Mayne – St. Émilion Grand Cru – The wine is loaded with lusciously-textured, black cherries, licorice, cocoa, and espresso beans. The wine is rich, supple, long, and fresh with a depth of flavor, freshness, lift and elegance and a salty mineral essence in the finish. The wine sports a new, updated label. The wine was made from 100% Merlot. Drink from 2026-2045. 94-96 Pts

2022 Godeau – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, red pit fruits, black cherries, vanilla, and spice nuances find their way into the perfume. On the palate, the wine is supple, creamy, fresh, and elegant, with sweetness, and lift to the fruits on the mid-palate, and in the finish. Drink from 2025-2040. 91-93 Pts

2022 Gracia – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Fresh, silky, elegant, ripe, soft, and fruity. The wine is forward, vibrant, and supple with refined, red pit fruits in the finish. The wine is produced from blending 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2025-2040. 92-94 Pts

2022 Grand Mayne – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Elegant, floral, fresh, and loaded with sweet, ripe, plums, cherries, licorice, and cocoa, the wine is medium-boded, refined, vibrant and silky and while it can be enjoyed in its youth, it is only going to get better with age. Drink from 2025-2045. 93-95 Pts

2022 Grand-Barrail-Lamarzelle – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Forward, soft, polished, medium-bodied, supple, early-drinking, fruity wine that finishes with layers of plums and licorice. This will be just fine on release. Drink from 2025-2037. 89-91 Pts

2022 Grand Corbin – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Floral in nature, the wine is packed with ripe dark pit fruits, creamy-textures, and cocoa in the nose, and on the palate. Medium-bodied, silky, and fresh, the wine is refined, elegant, and energetic. Drink from 2025-2040. 91-93 Pts

2022 Grand Corbin Despagne – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Dark in color, the wine pops with chocolate, licorice, black cherries, plums and flowers in the nose. Medium-bodied, round, fresh and sweet, the dark red fruits with their lush textures, lift and sucrosity create a gorgeous mouth-feel on the mid-palate and in the finish. The wine is produced from blending 75% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14.5% ABV, 3.64 pH. Drink from 2025-2045. 94-95 Pts

2022 Guadet – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Medium-bodied, fresh, soft, fruity, and a lean to the red pit fruit side of the style range. Round, and fruity, with a dusty finish, you can enjoy this on release. Drink 2025-2038. 90-92 Pts

2022 Haut Brisson – St. Émilion Grand Cru – On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, forward, soft and fruity, with a chalky nuance in the plummy finish. The wine blends 95% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2038. 91-93 Pts

2022 Haut Rocher – St. Émilion Grand Cru – With a depth of color, the wine kicks in with orange blossoms, boysenberry, and plums in the perfume. On the palate, the wine offers layers of black plums, chocolate, and more of those sweet, juicy, citrus notes. Blending 65% Merlot, with 20% Cabernet Franc, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec, this is a superb value wine that savvy wine buyers should take note of. Drink from 2025-2037. 91-93 Pts

2022 Haut Simard – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Blending a record setting 70% Cabernet Franc with 30% Merlot, you find a wine loaded with black fruits, flowers, and wild herbs. On the palate, the wine is fresh, vibrant, bright, and crisp, with a core of ripe, black, and red fruits, and vibrant, chalky tannins on the backend. Give it a year or so in the cellar and it promises to be even better. Drink from 2025-2040. 91-93 Pts

2022 Haut Veyrac – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Fruity, dark, rich, and loaded with espresso, dark chocolate, plums, and black cherries at its core. The wine is a blend of modern, and classic in style with ample, fruit in the finish. Made from a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2037. 89-91 Pts

2022 Haut-Sarpe – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Chocolate, cherries, flowers and licorice come together in this medium-bodied, creamy, forward wine. Drink from 2025-2037. 89-91 Pts

2022 Jean Faure – St. Émilion Grand Cru – With a unique nose of flowers, melted butter, red pit fruits, and spice, the palate is where the wine shows best with its layers of juicy, sweet, lush fruits, minerality, and vibrancy that stays with you. The wine blends 64% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot and 6% whole-bunch vinification, Malbec. Drink from 2025-2040. 92-94 Pts

2022 L’Archange – St. Émilion – Produced from 100% Merlot, the wine is soft, silky, medium-bodied and easy to drink. With its red plum, cocoa and cherry profile, soft-textures and easy to taste character, the wine is ready to go on release. Drink from 2025-2030. 90-92 Pts

2022 L’Etampe – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Medium-bodied, fresh, early-drinking, easy to like charmer with a red cherry, plum, and strawberry character in the nose, and on the palate. Drink from 2025-2035. 89-91 Pts

2022 La Clotte – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Black plums, black cherries, licorice, and black raspberries with a floral edge lead to a richly-textured wine loaded with supple, creamy, soft, dark red fruits, licorice, spice, and salty chocolate that comes in at the backend of the finish. The wine blends 85% Merlot, with 15% Cabernet Franc. 15% ABV, 3.73 pH. Drink from 2025-2040. 93-95 Pts

2022 La Commanderie – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Soft, silky, polished, and fresh, the fruits are sweet, creamy and supple. There is length, purity, as well as a nice polish to the tannins, and sweet, ripe fruits on the mid-palate, and in the finish. Drink from 2025-2037. 91-93 Pts

2022 La Confession – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, tobacco leaf, mint, licorice, and red berries open the nose. On the palate, the wine is silky, polished, fresh, and energetic. The fruits are clean, pure, and lively, with sweetness, lift, and delicacy, as well as purity in the finish. The wine blends 70% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec. 14.5% ABV, 3.63 pH. Drink from 2025-2045. 93-95 Pts

2022 La Croizille – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, leafy herbs, plums, cherries, mint, coffee bean, and licorice open the perfume effortlessly. On the palate, the wine is lush, soft, rich, sweet, and fresh, with silky plums, cherries, wet earth, spices, and white pepper on the back end. You can enjoy this young, or age it for more complexity. Drink from 2025-2042. 91-93 Pts

2022 La Dominique – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, black cherries, black raspberries, wet earth, forest herbs, and a touch of crushed stone opens the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, fresh, and more importantly, the fruits express purity. The wine has lift, vivacity, spices and dark chocolate that accents the fruits. Not the most concentrated wine of the vintage, instead you find elegance, length and precision. The wine blends 88% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15% ABV, 3.7 pH. The wine is aged in 50% new, French oak, and 10% amphora. Drink from 2026-2045. 94-96 Pts

2022 La Gaffeliere – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Rich, lush, deep and concentrated, the wine is fresh rich and vibrant with layers of sweet, ripe, vibrant, plums, cherries, flowers and crushed stones from start to finish. Drink from 2023-2050. 96-98 Pts

2022 La Marzelle – St. Émilion Grand Cru – With a strong floral essence, the wine is medium-bodied, supple, fresh, and energetic. The fruits are soft, refined, and edged with espresso, spice, and chocolate on the mid-palate, and in the soft, polished finish. Drink from 2025-2042. 94-95 Pts

2022 La Mondotte – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Deeply colored, the wine is concentrated, powerful, long, rich and intense. The fruits coat your palate with its layers of black and dark red fruits. The tannins are ripe. the fruits are sweet, lush, and opulent, as well as vibrant and elegant. The lengthy finish balances its mineral driven side with its power and freshness. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc, 14% ABV. The harvest took place September 3 – September 9. 2027-2060. 97-99 Pts

2022 La Serre – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Rich, deep, long, and creamy, the wine is all about its layers of deep, dark, lush fruits on the palate and in the finish. Drink from 2025-2042. 92-94 Pts

2022 La Voute – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Smoke, licorice, spice, and dark, ripe, red, black, and blue fruits with chocolate form the character of this wine. The wine is rich, lush, polished, fresh, and creamy, with layers of licorice, espresso, and chocolate-coated plums in the finish. Drink from 2025-2042. 93-95 Pts

2022 La-Fleur-Morange – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Dark, deep, rich, concentrated, polished, and fresh, the wine is packed with layers of black, and dark red pit fruits, espresso, cocoa, and licorice, finishing with a wave of fruit with a salty edge in the finish. Drink from 2025-2042. 93-95 Pts

2022 La-TourFigeac – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Quite floral in nature, the wine is elegant, fresh, soft, and silky. The fruits are vibrant, fresh, and supple, finishing with black plums, espresso, chocolate, and minty nuances. Drink from 2025-2045. 93-95 Pts

2022 Laforge – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Noticeably oaky in the nose, you quickly move to its chocolate-cherry, licorice, and plummy side in the perfume. On the palate, the wine is soft, round, fruity, and fresh, with polished tannins, and an easy to enjoy character. The wine blends 92% Merlot with 8% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2037. 91-93 Pts

2022 Laniote – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Chocolate covered plums, espresso, ripe, cherries, and polished tannins in a medium-bodied wine, finishing with a creamy, fruit-packed finish, and a sprig of mint in the endnote. Drink from 2025-2040. 90-92 Pts

2022 Larcis Ducasse – St. Émilion Grand Cru – The dark, purple hue stands out. Licorice, smoke, oyster shell, espresso, black cherries, and plums are all over the perfume. The wine explodes from the glass with its layers of opulent, black and red fruits, dark chocolate, espresso, smoke and chocolate on the palate. Full-bodied, powerful, and most importantly pure, there is a depth of flavor, and richness on the mid-palate that sticks with you through to the extended, mineral-driven finish. I would not be surprised to see this score even higher once it is in the bottle. The wine blends 86% Merlot with 14% Cabernet Franc, 14.6% ABV, 3.5 pH. The harvest took place September 13-September 23. Yields were 34 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2027-2055. 97-99 Pts

2022 Larmande – St. Émilion Grand Cru – The nose reminds me of cooking a black raspberry crumble with butter and black cherries. The palate is packed with black cherries, red pit fruits, licorice, and chocolate. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, sweet, and salty with lift and energy in the finish. Drink from 2025-2040. 91-93 Pts

2022 Laroque – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Showing a dark hue, the wine is all about its perfect balance between intensity, concentration, freshness, and elegance. The red pit fruits are sweet, refined, pure, and supple. The finish is long, creamy, pure and while powerful, it is elegant as well, leaving you with a saltiness on the backend, providing lift and precision. The wine was made with 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, 14.55% ABV. Drink from 2026-2045. 94-96 Pts

2022 Laroze – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Savory herbs, tobacco and ripe, black plums shine in the perfume, and on the plush, creamy, silky palate. The wine is fresh, elegant, vibrant, spicy, and creamy, leaving you with sweet plums, chocolate, and cherries. Drink from 2026-2042. 92-94 Pts

2022 Lassegue – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, cherries, herbs, licorice, mint, cocoa, and tobacco form the core of this medium-bodied, soft, forward, supple, elegant and vibrant wine, ending with sweet, red berries, spice, and spearmint. The wine will drink well, just about on release. Drink from 2026-2040. 91-93 Pts

2022 Le Chatelet – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Black cherries, espresso, chocolate, and a lot of oak creates the character in the nose and palate. Once past the wood, the wine is creamy, polished, and sweet, But it is on the oaky side of the style range. Drink from 2025-2038. 90-92 Pts

2022 Le Dome – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Dark in color, the wine offers black fruits, flowers, licorice, smoke, espresso, and cocoa aromatics. On the palate, the wine is deep, dark, fresh, long, and packed with the essence of minerality. The tannins are long, and polished, leaving you with mint leaves, salt, chewy-cherries, spices, herbs, and lingering plummy notes. The wine blends 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, 15.1% ABV. The harvest took place September 14 – October 28. The yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2027-2050. 96-98 Pts

2022 Le Prieure – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Dark in color, the wine shows its nose of white flowers, crushed stone, mint, mushroom, plums, and licorice with little effort. Fresh, silky, and concentrated, the wine is packed with crushed limestone, sweet, vibrant, red pit fruits, and black cherries from start to finish. The has concentration, and vibrancy, with no sense of of heat in the finish. The wine is a blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc.15% ABV, 3.75 pH. Drink from 2026-2045. 93-95 Pts

2022 Les Gravieres – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Deeply colored, the wine reminds me of eating black forest cake with all of its dark chocolate, black cherries, coconut and espresso. Powerful, concentrated, lush and creamy, there is a wealth of perfectly ripe, balanced, opulently-textured fruit on the palate and in the finish. 2022 was the last vintage for the owner, Denis Barraud who passed away shortly after the wine was made. He will be missed. His 2022 will be a tribute to him. Drink from 2025-2042. 93-95 Pts

2022 Lif – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Flowers, wild cherries, plums, spices,, and crushed rocks show in the nose. On the palate, the wine is lively, crisp and fresh, but there is also a depth of flavor. The berries are ripe, sweet, and energetic. But with the 2022, you can really feel the influence of the limestone. The wine is upbeat, and vibrant, with an elegant textures and a spicy tone to the finish. This remains one of the new stars of St. Emilion, and is a wine to follow before prices jump. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc, 14.3% ABV, pH 3.51. The harvest took place September 14 – September 26. Drink from 2027-2055 96-98 Pts

2022 Louis – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Dark in color, the wine packs in a lot of espresso, incense, smoke, licorice, and red pit fruits. Medium/full-bodied, supple, round, and polished, the fruits have lift, elegance, roundness and sweetness. Drink from 2025-2040. 91-93 Pts

2022 Lucia – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Incense, spice, smoke, cocoa, licorice ,and red pit fruits are found in the nose, and on the palate. The medium-bodied wine is soft, supple, and creamy with ripe, black cherries, espresso, and licorice on the mid-palate and in the lush finish. The wine is a blend of 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc, 14% ABV. Drink from 2025-2037. 91-93 Pts

2022 Lynsolence – St. Émilion Grand Cru – Black cherries, licorice, espresso, dark chocolate, and flowers open the wine in the nose. On the palate, the wine has depth of flavor, richness, elegance, and vibrancy. There is a chalky edge to all the ripe, fresh fruits in the finish. 2022 was the last vintage for the owner, Denis Barraud who passed away after the wine was made. He will be missed. His 2022 will be a tribute to him. Drink from 2026-2042. 94-96 Pts
