Tasting across a vintage lets you experience not only the big names at the top, but you get to discover great value wines as well.
.
Two of the best values I’ve tasted so far in 2018 are from Clos de Bouard. Lots of character, round, lush textures, sweet fruits and early drink ability at a friendly price. What’s not to like?

Because there are those nights when I’m not tast Because there are those nights when I’m not tasting young wines...

It’s always a treat and a thrill tasting historic, legendary vintages. It doesn’t happen all that often. And honestly, some wines are better than others.
.
1947 occupies a unique space as a legendary vintage. It was an extremely hot year producing alcoholic, port like wines.
.
1947 Clos Fourtet, at least this bottle was decades past its prime, with not much to offer.
.
1947 Le Gay was still rich, with concentrated Port like textures. Very ripe, with more secondary notes than fruit as you’d expect. The truffle, tobacco and cigar box with those textures had me going back for sip after sip.

2018 Cos d’Estournel ... . Slowly but surely I 2018 Cos d’Estournel ...
.
Slowly but surely I’m working my way through 2018 Bordeaux. At the moment, I’m focused on the Left Bank. I’m really liking how these Cabernet Sauvignon wines are showing, especially in the northern Medoc, where Cos d’Estournel is located.
.
Their entire 2018 lineup is strong, from top to bottom. Fans of Cos should take a serious look at these wines. With luck, I’ll have a full report out in early February.

Slowly working my through at least 500 bottles of 2018 Bordeaux... I can tell you Pontet Canet Rocks!
.
Deep, rich, concentrated and with a beautiful sense of purity and symmetry, this beauty tastes as good as it feels. I’m working my way through all the wines and will publish detailed notes and scores on my site ASAP.

Happy New Year Everyone! After a long, very quiet holiday break, it’s time for 2021 and I to get going.

I loved 2018 Bordeaux in barrel and I cannot wait to start checking out the vintage again, now that it’s in bottle.

Happy New Year Everyone!!! 2021 is ready to go, and so am I...

Chave is one of the worlds great wines. It’s been that way since 1481, when the family started producing wine in the Rhône Valley. Great character and style are the hallmarks of their wine.
.
1998 Chave - Not as much finesse as the 1999, still, there’s a lot to like Meaty, full-bodied, concentrated and stuffed with rocks, stone, black pepper, iron, wild cherries, grilled meat, olives and red berries, the wine feels youthful. The tannins are still noticeable. Better on the nose than the slightly rustic palate, this is a good Chave in an old-school style.

Haut Brion or La Mission? A tough holiday choice 😁.
.
One of my favorite pairings is 89 Haut Brion & 89 La Mission Haut Brion. Two phenomenal wines that have it all. From the same appellation, vintage & owner, it is a crash course in terroir.
.
There are nights when Haut Brion comes out on top and other evenings when La Mission rules the table. Either way, the true winner are the friends at the table enjoying the wines.
.
89 HB is more elegant, silky and refined, as well as slightly more developed aromatically. Long, intense, complex and seamless, absolutely stunning.💯
.
89 La Mission Haut Brion is more concentrated, opulent and palate filling. Incredibly rich, refined, regal and smoky, the finish is like eating perfectly ripe fruit wrapped in smoked tobacco leaves. 💯
