2023 Haut Medoc, Listrac, Moulis, and Medoc are not easy appellations to handicap. As you can imagine, here, there is a wide and diverse array of terroirs and producers, so not all wines are created equal. There are several wines that had problems achieving ripeness, so you find rustic tannins and pyrazines. That being said, there are a few wines that rose above their challenged terroirs providing some the best values in the 2023 Bordeaux vintage.

All of the following 2023 Haut Medoc, Listrac, Moulis, and Medoc wines were tasted in my home office in early 2026 in non-blind conditions.

2023 Anguilleys – Médoc – Medium-bodied, bright, vibrant, floral wine with notes of mint, herbs, and red fruits from start to finish. This will be at its best in its youth. Drink from 2026-2031. 85 Pts

2023 Anthonic – Moulis en Médoc – The palate is better than the nose, due to the reductive character in the perfume. Soft, medium-bodied, and ready to go, you can enjoy all of chewy, fresh and fruity red berries on release. Drink from 2026-2032. 87 Pts

2023 Arnauld – Haut-Médoc – Bright, light, soft, medium-bodied forward, and already easy to drink, with its fresh cherry character. Drink from 2026-2033. 87 Pts

2023 Barreyres – Haut-Médoc – Medium-bodied, soft, herb-tinted wine with a forward character so you can drink its simple, but pleasant red berry profile on release. Drink from 2026-2033. 88 Pts

2023 Beau Secret – Haut-Médoc – Forward, medium-bodied, black cherry-filled wine that will be ready to drink on release. Drink from 2026-2033. 84 Pts

2023 Beaumont – Haut-Médoc – Tobacco, cedar, and currants fill the aromatics. The palate is soft, round, and fresh with loads of sweet, ripe fruits from start to finish. Beaumont is one of the top Left Bank wines offering drinkability and character for a friendly price. If you are looking for value, check this out. 2023 Beauvillage – Médoc – Plums, blackberries, and cigar box aromas fill the nose. Medium-bodied, soft, supple, fresh, and fruity, with a creamy, black cherry finish. This is a delicious, early-drinking charmer that sells for a song. Drink from 2026-2036. 90 Pts

2023 Bel Air-Gloria – Haut-Médoc – Flowers and red fruits work well together in the nose. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine is soft, round, creamy, and easy to drink. Drink from 2026-2035. 90 Pts

2023 Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande – Haut-Médoc – Bright, crisp red fruits topped with assorted green herbs come through in the nose and on the medium-bodied, peppery palate. This will be at its best in its youth, and over the next few years. Drink from 2026-2031. 85 Pts

2023 Belgrave – Haut-Médoc – Blackberries, tobacco leaves, spearmint, and currants with a pinch of flowers form the core here. 2023 Bellegrave du Poujeau – Haut-Médoc – Mint, cedar, and savory-edged cherries pop in the nose, and on the medium-bodied, red-edged fruits, which leave you with a refreshing, minty, red currant finish. Drink from 2026-2035. 89 Pts

2023 Branas-Grand-Poujeaux – Moulis en Médoc – Flowers, tobacco, cedar, and black currants come to the surface in the nose. The plate continues in the same direction with its juicy layers of sweet, dark red, and black currants, with the perfect touch of refreshing mint that shows up in the finish. This is really showing well, much better than it did in barrel. Drink from 2026-2036. 92 Pts

2023 Braude – Haut-Médoc – Espresso, flowers, wet earth, and red fruits permeate the nose. The palate continues with an oaky presence through to the round, espresso, and chocolate topped finish. Drink from 2026-2033. 87 Pts

2023 Cap Leon Veyrin – Listrac-Médoc – Showing better in the bottle than it did in barrel, which is always a good sign, the wine kicks off with flowers, red currants, and cedar in the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh, medium-bodied, bright, and crisp, with a cherry and red currant profile and a helpful dash of chocolate and spearmint on the backend. Drink from 2027-2036. 90 Pts

2023 Capdet – Listrac-Médoc – Savory fruits with notes of underbrush and cedar in the nose. The palate is bright, vibrant, and decidedly crunchy with a lingering tart note with a hint of spearmint. Drink from 2026-2033. 86 Pts

2023 Carcanieux – Médoc – Tobacco, cedar, and red fruits define the core of this medium-bodied, early drinking, herbaceous wine. Drink from 2026-2032. 83 Pts

2023 Caroline – Moulis en Médoc – Spearmint, herbs, and bright red fruits already show in the nose, and on the soft, fruity, medium-bodied palate. This will be quite easy to enjoy on release. Drink from 2026-2034. 89 Pts

2023 Castera – Médoc – Quite herbaceous in the nose, and on the bright, earthy, herb-laden, and oaky palate. This will be at its best in its youth. Drink from 2026-2031. 84 Pts

2023 Chantemerle – Médoc – Currants, tobacco, and spearmint crowd into the nose. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, crisp and lively, with peppery red currants in the finish. Drink from 2026-2033. 86 Pts

2023 Charmail – Haut-Médoc – Espresso, flowers, red pit fruits, and chocolate mint define the aromas. The palate is fresh, juicy, and fruity, with a nice touch of chocolate and blackberries in the medium-bodied finish. 2023 Chemin Royal – Moulis en Médoc – Soft, sweet, ripe, red fruits are already on display in the aromatics and on the palate. Light and fresh are the name of the game here. 2023 Christine Nadalie Clos La Bohème – Haut-Médoc – Tobacco leaf, cedar, and hints of currants fill in the nose. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine is soft, vibrant, and bright with a core of strawberries and cherries in the finish. This is ready to go. Drink from 2026-2033. 87 Pts

2023 Cissac – Haut-Médoc – Tobacco, cedar, and herbs surround the red currants in the perfume. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh, and vibrant, but simple, making this a nice, plesant, uncomplicated wine for near-term drinking. Drink from 2026-2038. 89 Pts

2023 Clarke – Listrac-Médoc – Cocoa, and cherries are what you find in the nose. On the palate, the wine is round, fruity, forward, soft, and already quite easy to drink. Chateau Clarke is one of the very few wines in the Medoc that is planted to 100% Merlot. Drink from 2026-2037. 90 Pts

2023 Corconnac – Haut-Médoc – Light, bright, and herbal, the wine finishes with herbaceous, red fruits, and spice. This will be at its best in its youth. Drink from 2026-2033. 86 Pts

2023 Coufran – Haut-Médoc – Medium-bodied, black cherry-filled, chocolatey, round, plummy wine that is going to be quite easy to enjoy on release. Drink from 2026-2038. 89 Pts

2023 Croix du Trale – Haut-Médoc – Light, fresh, simple, but enjoyable, medium-bodied with ample red berries that display an herbal edge on the mid-palate, and in the finish. You can enjoy this with pleasure on release. Drink from 20262032. 87 Pts

2023 D’Arcins – Haut-Médoc – Quite floral in nature, you also find tobacco and cedar accompanying the red fruits in the perfume. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine is sweet, fresh, and fruity. You can enjoy this on release and for at least a decade after that. Drink from 2026-2037. 90 Pts

2023 DArgan – Médoc – Flowers, tobacco, smoke, and cherries fill the nose, and the medium-bodied cherry, and currant, open palate, with a drying finish. This will drink quite nicely on release. Drink from 2026-2034. 86 Pts

2023 De La Croix – Médoc – Medium-bodied, soft, fresh, and fruity, with a dash of licorice accompanying all the strawberries, hints of cocoa, and red currants in the finish. Drink from 2026-2034. 88 Pts

2023 Fleur La Mothe – Médoc – This superb, value-priced wine is medium-bodied, creamy, and readily accessible, with its layers of blackberries and sweet, vibrant cherries. 2023 Fonreaud – Listrac-Médoc – With a touch of spice adding complexity to the black cherries, espresso, chocolate, and licorice in the nose, and on the fresh, creamy palate. It will be easy to enjoy on release. Drink from 2026-2037. 91 Pts

2023 Fourcas Hosten – Listrac-Médoc – Quite minty in the perfume, with accents of currants, and anise in the aromatics. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, vibrant, and spicy, with sweet, red fruits in the finish. 2026-2035. 89 Pts

2023 Fourcas-Dupre – Listrac-Médoc – Quite floral in its nose, you also find sweet, ripe, currants and a touch of cherries in the perfume. The palate is even better with its sweet, ripe, red, and black fruits that are vibrant, energetic and frankly delicious. This should be easy to enjoy shortly after release. 2023 GdEstournel – Médoc – Dark red fruits, licorice, smoke, and chocolate pop in the nose and on the palate. Round, fresh, and fruity, and best of all, it is already quite nice to imbibe. This is the first vintage to include their new parcels, bringing the vineyard to 24 hectares of vines. You can enjoy this upon release. The wine blends 64% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2026-2034. 91 Pts

2023 Gemeillan – Médoc – Licorices, herbs, mint, and assorted leafy aromas with spicy red fruits are what you find here from start to finish. 2023 L’Orme de Rauzan Gassies – Haut-Médoc – Vibrant red fruits with strong underbrush currants propel the nose. The medium-bodied palate is simple and direct, leaving you with soft cherries on the backend. This will be at its best for early-drinking pleasure. Drink from 2026-2032. 85 Pts

2023 LArgenteyre – Médoc – Tobacco, herbs, cedar, mint, and bright red berries create the character here. Medium-bodied, fresh, and bright, with a load of crisp currants and raspberries in the finish, this will be at its best when tasted over the next few years. Drink from 2026-2032. 88 Pts

2023 Larrivaux – Haut-Médoc – Flowers, tobacco, cherries, and cedar work together to form the perfume and the palate. There is a sweetness to the fruits on the palate that is made even better with the addition of licorice, chocolate, and a refreshing touch of mint that lingers. 2023 Le Monteil d’Arsac – Haut-Médoc – Forward, medium-bodied, chewy, round, and with a blast of blackberries in the mid-palate, finishing with mint, and a drying endnote. Pleasant, but not very distinctive. Drink from 2026-2032. 87 Pts

2023 Les-Ormes-Sorbet – Médoc – Bright, crisp black currants and black cherries from the core of this medium-bodied, bright, energetic wine leave you with touches of herbs, spearmint, and dark red fruits in the chewy finish. 2023 Lestage-Darquier Grand Poujeaux – Moulis en Médoc – A touch of VA shows in the perfume, along with licorice and cassis. The wine is better on its medium-bodied palate with its chewy, mint-accented, bright red fruits. Drink from 2026-2035. 87 Pts

2023 Lestage-Simon – Haut-Médoc – Dark, chewy black currants with a refreshing touch of spearmint fill the perfume and the palate. There is a lot of fruit, with a finish that leaves you with herbs, olives, and more of that minty essence. and olives. Drink from 2027-2033. 87 Pts

2023 Madame de Beaucaillou – Haut-Médoc – Wet forest floor, underbrush, and black currants focus you on the wine. From there, you discover an easy-to-like, medium-bodied, fresh, fruity, vibrant wine with loads of sweet, round cherries, paired with a fun touch of peppery spice that comes in at the end of the finish. 2023 Malleret – Haut-Médoc – Licorice, cigar box, wet earth, cedar, and blackberries come through with ease in the perfume. The wine delivers its sweet, ripe currants, blackberries, and cocoa in a medium-bodied, forward, fresh, and fruity style. I like the refreshing touch of citrus and mint on the backend. 2023 Muret – Haut-Médoc – Tobacco, cedar, forest floor, and cassis notes pop in the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh, energetic, medium-bodied, and forward, so you can enjoy its chewy, crisp, red fruits just about on release. I like the refreshing touch of mint that you find on the backend of the finish. This is one of the few Merlot dominated wines from the Medoc, with 60% Merlot, and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
