There are quite a few solid value wines in 2023 Bordeaux, if you know where to look. Have no fear, we looked and tasted several hundred wines for you to find the best 2023 Bordeaux Value wine picks.

All of the following Bordeaux value wines were tasted in my home office in early 2026 in non-blind tasting conditions.

2023 Bordeaux Value Wine tasting notes

2023 Alcee – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Flowers, mint, black cherries, tobacco, and blackberries light up the perfume. The medium-bodied palate combines soft, polished textures with layers of ripe fruits, chocolate, and spearmint that refresh at the end of the finish. The wine was produced from 88% Merlot with 12% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2026-2036. 92 Pts

2023 Ampelia – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Light, bright, fresh, and fruity, there is a tart note to the cherries and strawberries that shows in the medium-bodied finish. This will be delicious on release. Drink from 2026-2031. 88 Pts

2023 Argilius – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Quite reductive on the nose before you get to the round-textured, herbal-tinted, black cherries on the palate, and in the finish. 2026-2028. 84 Pts

2023 Barbe Blanche – Lussac-St. Émilion – Underbrush and red fruits form the core here. The wine is medium-bodied, with a spicy, herb-tinted, red berry finish and a tart end note. Drink this on the young side. Drink from 2026-2030. 85 Pts

2023 Barre Gentillot Vieilles Vignes – Graves de Vayres – Chewy, cherry, herbal-toned wine with a chalky edge to the red fruits on the palate, and in the finish. Drink from 2026-2033. 86 Pts

2023 Beausejour Cuvee Prestige – Fronsac – Cocoa, smoke, cherries, and a light touch of oak fill the nose. On the palate, the wine is lively, fresh, soft, sweet, and fruity. Drink from 2026-2032. 88 Pts

2023 Bel Air Eiffel – Graves de Vayres – Light in color, and in fruit, this bright, crisp, red berry wine is simple, direct, and should be consumed over the next few years. On a historical note, the vineyard was until recently owned by a descendant of Gustave Eiffel, who designed the Eiffel Tower. 2023 Clos Bertineau Merlot – Montagne-St. Émilion – Chocolate-covered cherries, flowers, and a hint of smoke are what you initially notice. Supple and fruity on the palate, with long notes of sweet, ripe cherries to finish everything off nicely. The wine blends 55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. 2023 Courlat Cuvée Jean Baptiste – Lussac-St. Émilion – Quite floral in the nose, you also find notes of plums, licorice, and coca. Round, sweet, and creamy, this is already quite fun to drink, and it’s only going to get better with another year or two in the bottle. The Cuvee is always produced from 100% Merlot. 2023 Croix Lartigue – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Licorice, flowers, incense, and red fruits define the character here. The wine palate is soft, round, and filled with cherries and dark chocolate. 2022 Côtes du Rey Fossiles – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Charcoal, blackberries, and black cherries infuse the perfume. The palate is balanced between its supple textures, fruit, and freshness with lingering notes of sweet plums and cherries with just a hint of cocoa on the back end. 2021 Côtes du Rey Fossiles – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Initially, the perfume opens with a strong mineral note before moving to its raspberry, strawberry, and floral side. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, almost zesty, with a nice purity to the fruit, along with a touch of citrus and mint leaves, adding complexity to the refreshing finish. 2023 De Carles – Fronsac – Flowers, and dark cherries create the core of the wine. On the palate, the wine is soft, polished, and fresh, with chocolatery-plums on the mid-palate, and in the finish. 2023 De Grissac 1652 – Côtes de Bourg – Wet earth, assorted greenery, licorice, spice, and red berries create the nose. The light wine is crisp, fresh, and displays strawberries and red cherries with a peppery, green edge from start to finish. Drink from 2027-2031. 86 Pts

2023 De Laussac – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Dried flowers and dried cherries define the character here in this medium-bodied, sweet, fresh, open wine. The fruity finish is accompanied by a savory touch on the backend. Drink from 2026-2032. 88 Pts

2023 Faizeau Selection Vieilles Vignes – Montagne-St. Émilion – Chocolate mint aromas are what initially attract you to the wine. From there, the wine is sweet, supple, and creamy, with chocolate-covered black cherries, licorice, and dark red fruits with a touch of sea salt in the finish. 2023 Fontenil – Fronsac – Chocolate-coated cherries, licorice, smoke, and flowers define the nose. On the palate, the wine is even better with its lush, creamy, layers of smoked cherries, dark chocolate, licorice and minerality that comes in at the end of the finish. 2023 Fontenil Le Defi – Fronsac – Black plums, flowers, chocolate, spice, and lack raspberries work together in the perfume. The palate is even better with its round, supple-textured, layers of creamy fruits that deliver freshness, spice, and lift, with a complicated note of sea-salt in the finish. 2023 Joanin Becot – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Initially, you are greeted with a bouquet of flowers, cherries, cocoa, and spice. The medium-bodied palate is elegant, and lifted, with layer of sweet, ripe, supple-textured cherries, plums, and chocolate, with the perfect touch of minerality in the finish. The wine is a blend of 80% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine is produced from some of the oldest vines in the appellation, with the oldest vines dating back to 1870! 2023 Le Rey Argileuses Parcelles 1 et 3 – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – Flowers, licorice, mint, cocoa, and red fruits define the character here. Medium-bodied, soft, and fresh, which leaves you with sweet, ripe. delicious red fruits. It is hard to find a better value from the Cotes de Bordeaux appellation. 2023 Les Roches de Ferrand Grande Selection – Fronsac – With hints of raspberries, cocoa, and cherries, this medium-bodied, if not light, wine is ready to deliver its simple, but, pleasant fruity charms on release. Drink from 2026-2030. 86 Pts

2023 Les-Trois-Croix – Fronsac – Flowers, crushed rocks, marine influences, and dark, red fruits pop in the nose with little effort. The medium-bodied palate is supple, fresh, fruity, and complex, finishing with salty, cherries, raspberries, and plums. Drink from 2026-2036. 93 Pts

2023 Montlandrie – Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux – The bouquet of flowers stands out before revealing its rich cherries, mint, and chocolate that make up the aromatic profile. 2023 Petit Puch – Graves de Vayres – Herbaceous and earthy in the nose, the wine finishes with crisp, tart, red fruits and rustic tannins. Drink from 2026-2030. 84 Pts

2023 Plain-Point – Fronsac – Round, opulent, fruit-filled as well as oaky and forward. The fruits are ripe and creamy. This is not a wine of contemplation, but if you are looking for a value-priced, ready-to-go Merlot and chocolate-packed wine with a lush finish, this is for you. Drink from 2026-2034. 90 Pts

2023 Prieure Saint-Anne – Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux – Quite plummy in the nose, before finding the refreshing sprig of mint and floral notes. The round-textured, supple, fruity palate seals the deal. Blended from 90% Merlot, with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is ready to drink on release. Drink from 2026-2034. 90 Pts

2023 Puyfromage – Bordeaux Côtes de Francs – Mint and flowers with a hint of red berries open this Merlot-dominated wine. On the palate, the wine is crisp, bright, and light, with a bite to the strawberries and herbs in the finish. 2023 Simon Blanchard Champ de la Fenetre – Montagne-St. Émilion – Strawberries, black cherries, and chocolately-plums with licorice, create the perfume. The palate is even better with its layers of supple-textured, chocolate coated black cherries tinted with minerality that comes in at the end of the finish. The wine is produced from blending 94% old vine Merlot with 6% Malbec. The wine comes from Simon Blanchard, a member of the Stephane Derenoncourt team.
