All of the following 2024 Pauillac wines were tasted in barrel in April in Bordeaux under non-blind conditions at either the chateau, various trade groups, organizations, negociants, or with consultants. When possible, wines were tasted multiple times. 2024 Pauillac Tasting Notes, Scores, Reviews

2024 Batailley – Pauillac – Creme de cassis, cigar wrappers, flowers, and cherries fill the perfume. The palate is fresh, lively, medium-bodied, and frankly, best described as charming, with its early, drinking, vibrant character. It is interesting to note this is the 100th vintage for the Casteja family. The bottles will feature a special label, and buyers can order the wine in limited edition, 2.25 liter bottles. The wine is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV. Harvesting took place September 2 – October 8. Drink from 2029-2045. 92-94 Pts

2024 Batailley Lions de – Pauillac – Medium-bodied, fresh, vibrant, juicy, and fruity, with loads of minty-fresh, creme de cassis, from start to finish. Enjoy this on release while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The wine blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2027-2034. 89-91 Pts

2024 Batailley Pauillac de Batailley – Pauillac – Soft, approachable, medium-bodied, fruity wine that is perfect for easy, uncomplicated, early-drinking pleasure. Pauillac de Batailley is the 3rd wine of Batailley. The wine blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2032. 86-88 Pts

2024 Bellegrave (Pauillac) – Pauillac – Cedar, tobacco, peppery currants, and spearmint form the core of the character here. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, fruity, light, and forward, so you can enjoy drinking this with ease on release. Drink from 2027-2038. 88-90 Pts

2024 Clerc Milon – Pauillac – Flowers, black cherries, currants, spice, and tobacco form the core here. The wine is bright, fresh, crisp, gentle, and minty, with a refreshing note on the finish. While this will be delicious when young, give it some time in the bottle, as it will improve with age. Picking took place September 7-September 29. 2024 Clerc Milon Pastourelle de Clerc Milon – Pauillac – Black raspberries, flowers, and cocoa form the core of this already charming, soft, open, and accessible wine. With sweetness, and vibrancy to its currants, and cherries on the palate, this is going to be quite nice to enjoy on release. The wine blends 49% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Carmenere, 13.2% ABV. Drink from 2027-2037. 89-91 Pts

2024 Croizet-Bages – Pauillac – Black currants, cherries, cedar, and cocoa are the intro to the wine. Medium-bodied, chewy, savory, fresh, and vibrant, you find a minty edge to the sweet and spicy currants on the palate and in the finish. The wine blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Merlot, 13% ABV. Harvesting took place September 23 – October 8. Drink from 2027-2040. 90-92 Pts

2024 DArmailhac – Pauillac – Spicy black currants and floral aromas are already evident on the nose. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and fresh, with a crisp edge to the savory currants and a hint of peppery orange rind in the finish. Allow it a year or two in the bottle, and it will reward your patience. The wine consists of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, and 14% Cabernet Franc. This represents the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon ever used in the blend in the history of the estate. 12.9% ABV, 3.69 pH. Harvesting took place on September 25 – October 5. 2024 Duhart-Milon – Pauillac – Currants, with tobacco leaf, and cigar box aromatics are already on display in the nose. Bright, fresh, crisp, and crunchy, there is a lot of vibrance to the red berries in the medium-bodied, vivid finish, topped off with a sprig of mint on the backend. Give it just a year, or two in the bottle, and this is going to be even better. The wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 22% Merlot. 13% ABV, 14% press wine. 2024 Duhart-Milon Blanc – Pauillac – Honeysuckle, grapefruit, lemon rind, green apples, pears, and hints of white peaches create the complex nose and start off the palate. Juicy, sweet, and fresh, with a lean to the tropical fruit side, the wine is all about its lift, freshness, and purity. The wine blends 62% Semillon, 35% Sauvignon Blanc, and 3% Sauvignon Gris. Not much wine is made, with approximately 650 cases produced. Drink from 2027-2035. 93-93 Pts

2024 Fonbadet – Pauillac – Spearmint, flowers, and currants burst in the nose. On the palate, the wine is vibrant, elegant, chewy, and fresh, with sweetness and lift that’s easy to sense due to the currant and strawberries finish. The wine blends 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 12% Merlot. Drink from 2028-2042. 90-92 Pts

2024 Grand Puy Ducasse – Pauillac – Currants, blackberries, black currants, licorice, and espresso form the core of this wine. Medium-bodied, almost creamy in texture, with loads of sweet currants, mint, licorice, and espresso in the mid-palate, and in the finish. The wine blends 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and 9% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. Drink from 2029-2045. 91-93 Pts

2024 Grand Puy Lacoste – Pauillac – Spicy, black currants, cedar, cigar wrappers, spearmint, and floral aromas only take a single swirl to find. The palate is medium-bodied, chewy, crisp, and racy, with an open character allowing all of the sweet, vibrant, red currants, strawberries, and peppery garrigue notes to come through easily on the palate and in the classic-oriented finish. The wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon with 22% Merlot, 13.2% ABV. The Grand Vin was produced from 60% of the crop. Picking took place September 25 – October 8. 2024 Grand Puy Lacoste Borie – Pauillac – Bright, peppery, vibrant, red fruits, and flowers form the core of the wines character. On the medium-bodied palate, you find crisp, juicy, red currants, peppery herbs, and a hint of pomegranate from start to finish. The wine blends 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2036. 88-90 Pts

2024 Haut Bages Liberal – Pauillac – Strawberries, black raspberries, currants, cocoa, and floral aromas fill the aromatic profile. The wine is medium-bodied, vibrant, and crunchy, with sweetness surrounded by its natural acidities, and juicy, red currants in the finish. The wine blends 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. 13% ABV. 3.57 pH. Yield were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Harvesting took place September 24 – October 4. 2024 Haut Batailley – Pauillac – Currants, flowers, cocoa, tobacco, and blackberry aromatics create the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is loaded with more of those clean, sweet, juicy, chewy black, with red currants. The wine was made from blending 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot, 12.9% ABV, 3.63 pH. Drink from 2028-2045. 91-93 Pts

2024 Haut Batailley Verso – Pauillac – Currants, and cranberry form the nose. The palate is crisp, crunchy, and fresh, finishing with black, and red currants from start to finish. Drink this over the next decade or so. The wine blends 59% Merlot, with 41% Cabernet Sauvignon. 12.9% ABV. Drink from 2027-2037. 88-90 Pts

2024 Haut de la Becade – Pauillac – Medium-bodied, forward, light, creamy, and fresh, with loads of sweet currants, soft-tannins, and a fruity finish. This is a nice, early drinking Pauillac that is a new one for me. I look forward to seeing it again in different vintages. Drink from 2027-2039. 89-91 Pts

2024 Haut-Bages Monpelou – Pauillac – Creme de Cassis, tobacco, and cedar work well with the gentle touch of herbs in the background. Medium-bodied, vibrant, soft, forward, and elegant, you can enjoy this for it fruits, and freshness on release, or age it for 12 or more years. The wine blends 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2027-2040. 89-91 Pts

2024 La Fon du Berger – Pauillac – Currants, strawberries, and cherries lead this lighter-styled, fruity, medium-bodied, early-drinking Pauillac that will open on release for immediate pleasure. Drink from 2027-2037. 88-90 Pts

Saskia de Rothschild Chateau Lafite Rothschild “For us to achieve complex aromatics that truly express the vintage was one of our goals. To do this, finding the perfect dates to pick, coupled with a light touch in the cellars and extra attention to the press wine, made all the difference this year.”

2024 Lafite Rothschild – Pauillac – Indian spices, flowers, Cuban cigars, cedar, crème de cassis, and blackberries are just the start of what you find in the perfume. One of the more elegantly styled wines of the vintage, it is marked by its cut and freshness. The wine is refined and expressive, with a silkiness to the fruits, paired with length and purity. The graceful finish lingers with its natural lift and vibrancy. The wine blends 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, along with 16% press wine. It has 13% ABV and a pH of 3.8. Harvesting started on September 27 for the young Merlot vines and finished on October 7. Yields were 32 hectoliters per hectare, and 45% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. It’s interesting to note that 2024 is the first vintage that’s certified organic. It should be noted that Lafite was the first First Growth to be offered for sale from the vintage, and for a quality vintage of Lafite, it was priced reasonably as well. 2024 Lafite Carruades de Lafite – Pauillac – Licorice, black currants, plums, and leafy tobacco nuances create the perfume. The palate is even better with its vivid display of fresh, juicy, crisp red, with black fruits paired with a fine line of tannins down the middle giving you grace, character, and refined freshness. The finish displays the wine’s elegance, with a touch of chalk on the back end of the finish. Give this just a year, or two in the bottle and it will be quite charming in your glass. The wine is a blend of 47% Merlot, 45% Cabernet, 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. 3.65 pH. Picking took place September 23 – October 7. Drink from 2028-2040. 91-93 Pts

Helene Genin Chateau Latour “The ability to react promptly in order to manage mildew and botrytis in the vineyards was key. From there, exercising maximum flexibility in choosing our harvesting dates on a plot-by-plot basis allowed us to produce the best wine possible. From there, intensive sorting made all the difference with 2024 Bordeaux.”

2024 Latour – Pauillac – Back currants, smoke, cigar box, cedar, dried flowers, licorice, and Indian spice notes pop in the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied, vibrant, refined, elegant, and fresh, featuring soft tannins and a refreshing jolt of minty currants. This wine embodies a quintessentially classic-modern style. It possesses energy, with fruits and spice in the mid-palate and a refreshing touch of mint in the finish. For Chateau Latour, you will be able to enjoy it relatively early in life. The wine was produced from 94.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.2% Merlot, and .02% Petit Verdot. 12.85% ABV, 5.5% Press Wine. Only 44% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. This means that roughly 3,500 cases of Latour were produced this year. Harvesting took place September – October 9. Yields were 11 hectoliters per hectare. 2024 Latour Les Forts de Latour – Pauillac – Flowers, cherries, currants, hints of citrus, and tobacco create the aromatic profile. The wine is medium-bodied, vibrant, fresh, and fruity, with lift, energy, and brightness in the chewy, peppery, mint-accented finish. This will provide classically-styled Pauillac drinking for 15 or more years with ease. The wine was produced from blending 65.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25.5% Merlot, and 9% Petit Verdot. 12.87% ABV. 2024 Latour Pauillac de Latour – Pauillac – Flowers, red cherries, and plums create the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is bright, and crisp, with a zesty finish that adds a bit of citrus to the backend of the finish adding additional lift, and complexity. You can drink this on release. The wine was produced from a blend of 89.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10.7% Merlot, and .01 Petit Verdot. This is the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, and lowest amount of Merlot ever placed in the blend. 12.71% ABV. Drink 2028-2040. 90-92 Pts

2024 Les Sadons – Pauillac – Mid-weight, easy-going Pauillac focused on its core of black, and red currants, chewy-textures, and tobacco-accented fruits in the finish. Drink from 2027-2035. 87 -89 Pts

2024 Lynch Bages – Pauillac – Flowers, spicy, herbs, menthol, peppery currants, and espresso in the the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fresh, and zesty, with a nice blast of chewy currants, a drop of orange rind, and a hint of peppery mint that comes in at the end of the finish adding a refreshing touch to the backend. Classic in style, (Classic in a good way) this is quite successful for the vintage. The wine blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. 3.67 pH. The harvest took place September 13 – October 4. Yields were only 30 hectoliters per hectare. The Grand Vin was made from 60% of the harvest. Picking took place September 25 – October 8. 2024 Lynch Bages Echo de Lynch Bages – Pauillac – Medium-bodied, bright, crisp, and fresh, there is nice lift, and energy here on the palate, and in the chewy, bright, red currant filled finish. The wine blends 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 37% Merlot. 12.8% ABV, 3.62 pH. Drink from 2027-2038. 89-91 Pts

2024 Lynch Bages Blanc de Lynch Bages – Bordeaux – Grapefruit, vanilla, green apples, and floral notes are all over the place. The palate is equally brisk, with its vibrant, crisp display of yellow citrus, and crunchy green apples, with just a hint of white peach, juicy pineapples, and white pepper that comes in at the end of the finish. The wine is produced from blending 77% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Muscadelle, and 11% Semillon. 12.5% ABV, 3.12 pH. Drink from 2027-2035. 93 Pts

2024 Lynch-Moussas – Pauillac – Cedar, cigar wrapper, and black, with red currants are already starting to shine in this medium-bodied, soft, expressive, vibrant, chewy, charmer. The refreshing touch of mint leaf in the finish adds a nice complexity. The wine blends 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 22% Merlot.13.5% ABV. Drink from 2027-2045. 90-92 Pts

2024 Lynch-Moussas Pauillac de Lynch-Moussas – Pauillac – Tobacco, cedar, herbs, and plums show easily in the nose, and on the medium-bodied, fruity, charming palate. This will be at its best in its youth for its fruity charm. The wine blends 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 35% Merlot. Drink from 2027-2034. 88-90 Pts

Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy Chateau Mouton Rothschild “2024 was a vintage requiring us to remain alert from start to finish. Being able to move and to be adaptive in the vineyards was imperative with 2024 Bordeaux. Also, utilizing the density bath for sorting at Mouton Rothschild made a difference that you can taste and feel in the wine.“

2024 Mouton Rothschild – Pauillac – Cigar box, flowers, black currants, blackberries, espresso, licorice, spice box, and forest leaves initiate the wine’s complex aromatics. On the palate, the wine is almost creamy, exhibiting freshness, energy, length, and purity. This upbeat wine is chalky, complex, and enhanced with sweetness, an array of spices, and more of those juicy, fresh currants in the refreshing, mint-tinged finish. I particularly enjoy the Indian spice notes that emerge at the backend of the finish. The wine consists of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. Only 2010 had a higher percentage of Cabernet in the blend. 12.9% ABV, 3.77 pH. 44.5% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. The harvest took place September 23 – October 5. 2024 Mouton Rothschild Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild – Pauillac – Chocolate dusted currants, flowers, black currants, and crème de cassis form the nose. Medium-bodied, vibrant, lifted, and juicy, the red fruits are vivid and sweet, with a crunchy quality to the berries that resonates in the finish. The wine blends 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot.13% ABV. Drink from 2028-2044. 91-93 Pts

2024 Mouton Rothschild Aile D’Argent Blanc – Bordeaux – Tropical fruits, honeysuckle, pineapple, green apples, pears, and white peaches combine with a touch of saffron to create a lively aroma. Energetic, crisp, and vibrant, the finish draws your focus to its core of green apples, yellow and orange citrus, and juicy pineapples that linger. You can enjoy this on release. The wine was made from a blend of 54.5% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Semillon, and 12.5%. Drink from 2027-2034. 94 Pts

2024 Pauillac – Pauillac – Blackberries and currants, with cocoa, flowers, and licorice, fill the nose. On the palate, the wine is chewy, concentrated, firm, and rich, with loads of juicy, fresh currants from start to finish. The wine blends 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 5% Merlot. 2024 Pedesclaux – Pauillac – Showing a nice depth of color, the wine exudes flowers, currants, cigar box, and cedar in the perfume. Fresh, and creamy on the palate, the wine delivers its layers of cassis, with only a hint of leafy herbs which do not show up until the end of the finish. This is quite successful for the vintage. Give it a few years in the cellar, and enjoy it over the following 2 or more decades. The wine blends 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. 57% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. Harvesting took place September 24 – October 7. 2024 Pedesclaux Fleur de Pedesclaux – Pauillac – Forward, fruity, and already focused on its black currant profile, the wine is medium-bodied, chewy, spicy, and earthy, with a savory edge to the fruits on the palate, and in the finish. You can enjoy this on release while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. Drink from 2027-2035. 89-91 Pts

2024 Pibran – Pauillac – Flowers, peppery-herbs, and red currants already pop in the core of this wine. Quite vibrant, with the strawberry, and raspberry fruit side already coming through on the palate and in the classic, fresh finish. This will offer its charms shortly after release. The wine is made by blending 54% Cabernet Sauvignon with 46% Merlot. 13% ABV. This is only the second time the estate has used this much Cabernet in the blend. Drink from 2028-2040. 89-91 Pts

Pierre Montegut Chateau Pichon Baron “The most difficult part of the vintage was waiting. The harvest required a balancing act between the potential of botrytis and our ability to achieve maximum ripeness. For the vinifications, low temperatures and gentle extractions enabled the floral profile to express itself in the aromatics, which helped a lot.”

2024 Pichon Baron – Pauillac – Aromatically, the wine expresses its floral side, with violets, and roses before getting to the cocoa, black currants, licorice, smoke, and espresso notes. The palate offers vibrant, soft, and almost creamy red berries, mint leaf, tobacco, and sweet cherries, with notes of spearmint, and chalk at the very end of the finish. Bright, and refined, this modern, classically-styled wine is elegant, forward, and will be available for pleasure with just a few years in the bottle. It has the potential to age for 2-3 decades. The wine blends 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with 13% Merlot. 12.7% ABV, 3.7 pH. The harvest took place September 25 – October 3 for the Merlot. The Cabernet was picked October 3 – October 10. 2024 Pichon Baron Les Griffons de Pichon Baron – Pauillac – Black cherries, flowers, and dark chocolate is what you initially find in the perfume. Equally fresh, and elegant, on the palate, the red fruits are vivid, soft, and crisp, with hints of spice, and a cool, background note of mint at the end of the finish. The wine blends 56% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc. 12.9% ABV, 3.62 pH. Drink from 2028-2044. 91-93 Pts

2024 Pichon Baron Les Tourelles de Longueville – Pauillac – Black cherries, with accents of chocolate, flowers, and black raspberry aromatics are already available. The charming, medium-bodied palate is lively, as well as sweet, forward, and delicious, finishing with more of those chocolatey cherries in the finish. While you can enjoy this on release, it promises to be better with age. The wine blends 65% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 13% Cabernet Franc. 13.1% ABV, 3.59 pH. 2024 Pichon Baron Les Griffons de Pichon Baron Blanc – Bordeaux – Pineapples, white peaches, and green apples are all over the place. Creamy, sweet, and with lift, energy, and a chalky, white pepper/curry note that shines in the mid-palate, carrying through to the finish, this is going to be a pleasure to taste young. It is also a great wine to present in a blind tasting. The wine is produced from 100% Semillon, planted in less than 1 hectare of vines that come from a massale selection of Suduiraut.12.9% ABV, 3.17pH. Drink from 2027-2034. 93 Pts

Nicolas Glumineau Chateau Pichon Comtesse “With the 2024 Bordeaux, we needed a light touch in the cellars. For example, fewer pump-overs allowed the cap to remain as juicy as possible. Longer macerations with less extraction also helped create more flesh and creaminess in the mid-palate. “

2024 Pichon Lalande – Pauillac – Bouquets of flowers, Cuban cigars, blackberries, black cherries, plums, smoke, cassis, and truffle aromatics capture your attention. On the palate, the wine is elegant, silky, vibrant, and graceful. The fruits provide purity, length, and freshness. The layers of licorice-infused cherries, plums, walnuts, chocolate, and black plums on the medium-bodied palate are supple, silky, and as generous as the vintage allows, finishing with more of those sweet, juicy, vivacious plums. The wine promises sublime pleasure with just a few years of age and will evolve for 2-3 years decades. The wine blends 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. 12.7% ABV. 3.7 pH. 2024 Pichon Lalande Comtesse Reserve – Pauillac – Black cherries, chocolate, flowers, and a cigar box create the perfume. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, silky, and fruity, with elegance and charm. In contention for the best second wine of the vintage, it blends 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. 12.7% ABV. pH 3.7. The harvest took place from September 23 ending October 9. Drink from 2027-2040. 91-93 Pts

2024 Pichon Comtesse Blanc – Vin de France -White peaches, pears, pineapples, green apples, white flowers, spice, roasted cashews, and a hint of licorice form the complex perfumed aromatics. The palate is lifted, vibrant, fresh, and juicy. The creamy, tropical fruit oriented finish lingers, with a touch of ginger at the end of the finish. The wine blends 67% Chardonnay, with 33% Savinieer. The vines are young, only 5 years of age. The wine is vinified in approximately 70% new, French oak, with malolactic in barrel. There is no skin contact, aging is done on the wines fine lees for 7 months before bottling. Not much wine as the yields were only 2 hectoliters per hectare of wine, translating to a whopping 300 bottles, or less. Drink from 2027-2032. 93 Pts

2024 Pontet Canet – Pauillac – With a good depth of color, the wine bursts with floral aromatics, black currants, licorice, cocoa, Asian spices, and wet earth in its open perfume. The palate is lively, energetic, and already expressive. This is classic in nature, blending influences from the vineyard with its fruits. The wine blends 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot.13.1% ABV, pH 3.8. Harvesting took place September 26 – October 11. The success of the vintage is due to the workers’ efforts in the vineyard, which include adding extra grass to remove excess water, exercising patience, selective picking, and avoiding overreactions in the vineyards and cellars. Pontet Canet led the 2024 campaign as it was the first major release from the vintage. The wine is aging in a combination of 50% new, French oak barrels, 35% Amphora, and neutral oak.
