2016 Bordeaux clearly belongs on the best vintage list for any Bordeaux wine lover. But there are hits and misses here, along with several high points. The wines are stylish, age worthy and will age and evolve for decades. But there are vineyards and appellations that did better than others.
2018 Saint Emilion wines rival many of the best vintages this appellation has experienced. The are rich, full, deeply concentrated, aromatic, sensuous wines that can drink well young, yet age for decades.
2020 St. Julien wines are richly colored, deep, refined, elegant, classic and age-worthy. Stylish, silky, long and fresh, the appellation is consistent, but all wines were not created equally this year.
2020 was quite successful for the Satellite Appellations of St. Emilion. The vineyards with the best water-retentive, clay and limestone soils produced beautiful, rich, supple-textured, luscious wines of character. They drink well early and they offer some of the best values in Bordeaux!
