I'm not sure why bottled decadence is not enough of a descriptor. For those that either want me to work harder or who wish to gain further insight into this wine or both, let's begin with its inky color and the floral bouquet, which is something for the front window of the ritziest florist in town. The dark, red pit fruits offer intensity, purity and opulent textures not found in other wines. The depth in the finish is matched by the length. If you want to know what great Pomerol is all about, this wine is the prime example. Give it at least a decade or more before popping a cork. 98-100 Pts

Truffles, truffles and more truffles, if you're a fan of that special scent, this is your wine! More than those earthy notes, you also find a wealth of ripe, black and red plums, cherries, flowers and spice. And that's just the appetizer. It is on the palate, with its silky, velvet drench, opulent texture where the wine really shines. Full-bodied, ling and deep, this is bottled decadence. Give it at least a decade in the cellar before popping a cork.

There are many things I love about wine tasting. One of the great pleasures is tasting wine in barrel and scoring it higher in bottle, which is a true sign of quality. That is what took place here clearly. This wine is off the charts! The level of intensity has to be tasted to be believed. The fruit tastes as if each berry was polished with a velvet cloth. This is incredibly hedonistic. With a surreal texture, the wine unfolds and coats your palate with waves of perfectly ripe fruits. cashmere tannins make you with the 60 second finish was even longer! This is an indulgence of pleasure at its best.

Incredibly sensuous with cashmere tannins and a hedonistic personality, this feels like polished velvet on your palate. The fruits are perfectly ripe, sweet, fresh and pure, moving from dark plums to black cherries and back again. The wine is light on its feet, but in a good way, as there is a wealth of fruit in every sniff, sip and opulently-textured taste. This is an indulgence of pleasure at its best. The wine was made from a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. The harvest took place from September 11 to October 1. 96-98 Pts

Flowers, chocolate, licorice, plums and ripe, fresh, juicy, earthy black cherry notes are easy to find in the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is rich, deep, concentrated, silky and long. The powerful, intense, expansive finish grows, displaying a wide array of fruits and spice. The wine is structured with the ability to age for decades. I prefer the 2009 for its hedonistic, sensuous qualities, but this is a sublime vintage for Trotanoy, just different in style. I hope to compare both over the years.

Deep ruby in color, flowers, truffle, Asian spice and earthy scented. Opulent, rich, supple, and luxurious, the refined black and red fruit wine is very strong. Yes, it's still incredibly young and its best years are all in the future, but it's fun to check in and enjoy these wines in their youth allowing you to look back at what it was, and what it is. 2009 Trotanoy sports a dark ruby color. Spice, jammy dark berries, black raspberries, truffles, plum liqueur, Valhrona chocolate, fresh flowers, and licorice in the nose. The wine coats your palate with endless layers of intense, decadent fruit, chocolate, and spice. The seamless finish lasts more than sixty seconds. Rich, round, ripe and fleshy, the velvet textures and and round, silky fruits make each sip, sniff and swallow a pleasure. Popped and poured, the wine improved for more than an hour in the glass. It's probably at peak maturity, but there is no real hurry to finish it.

Drinking at absolute peak perfection, truffle, earth, cocoa, floral and black cherry aromas capture your attention. In the mouth, the wine is pure silk, velvet and sensuality, with a long, clean, array of fresh cherries and spice.

Truffle, milk chocolate, black cherry liqueur, licorice, 5 spice, earth, tobacco, forest floor and black raspberry scents lead to a decadent Pomerol wine filled with deep, layers of concentrated, ripe, pure berries. Sensuous, opulent, round, plush waves of fruit flow effortlessly across your palate. The wine ends with a long, rich, coating of spicy black cherries, licorice and plums. This is fully mature, but at 41, there is no hurry to drink it. Well stored bottles could easily deliver pleasure for another 10-20 years. Everything is in balance from start to finish in this stunning Bordeaux wine.

Truffles, tobacco, earth and forest floor scents just popped from the bottle, let alone the glass. The palate was thrilled with layers of sexy, plumy fruit. The finish carried everything through.

Wow, this wine kicked in with an explosive nose of spicy plums, smoke, flowers, earth and coffee. Still young , full bodied and concentrated with a long, rich. Opulent, powerful, plum filled finish. This wine will continue positively for at least another 5-10 years .

Fully mature, the bouquet of truffles, plums, red and black fruit accented with spices is explosive. The syrupy texture is sexy. The finish goes on and on. I love this wine! It takes decadence to new levels.

What a sublime wine. Intoxicating, chocolate, plum fragrances that were made better by a rich, thick, dense palate of sexy, velvet drenched fruit. It's opulent, fragrant and continued improving in the glass during the entire evening. Great juice! The only two negatives are one, recognizing how much patience I need for my 98's to come around and two, that I do not have enough of this sublime nectar in my cellar.

This was my first time with this vintage, so I am not certain if this bottle was representative, Fading, with some ripe, sweet and tart fruits, there was a stern character to the tannins and textures. The nose was majestic, but this classicly styled wine seems to have had better days. I have another bottle in my cellar, so perhaps it will be better.

Finally, a bottle of this legend that matched up to its lofty reputation. The concentration, intensity and pure silk feeling of this bottles was off the charts. Incredibly seductive, the wine drenched your palate with a blend of ripe, plums and truffles. Absolutely mind blowing wine!

My second time with this legendary wine, and while both bottles have been good, they have never been great. This bottle was served double blind against 70, 82 & 98 Trotanoy, and all those other bottles bested this. The wine was quite good, but it did not deliver the magic in the glass I was expecting. Clearly, the wine has the depth, concentration of raw materials, and aromatic complexities of a very good, Bordeaux, but it lacks the nuances and attention seeking complexities, coupled with the length and decadence that a great 1961 Pomerol should deliver. Perhaps, at close to 60 years of age, this is simply, tired?

1961 Trotanoy is one of those wines I never thought I would taste. It's incredibly rare. The few people I know who've tasted it, speak about it in hushed tones with reverence and knowing smiles. If a bottle comes up for sale, I'm sure it will end up at Bill Gates house. When a friend of mine brought it to dinner, I was thrilled at meeting this legendary Bordeaux wine. This bottle was only traded once, from the original owner to my friend, back in 1982. This was as good as it was going to get. Would it deliver? We popped the cork to find out. An exotic perfume filled with cloves, roses, chocolate, Asian spice, fudge, truffle, blackberry liqueur, earth and tobacco caught my attention and kept it. We were off to a good start. After spending ample time with the perfume, it was time for the big show. How would this wine taste and feel as it slid past my lips, spilling over my palate? Lacking the concentration found in the best wines, this elegant, sweet, round, plummy wine was filled with charm. But the wine did not deliver what we had hoped for. What is not ravaged by the hands of time? Make no mistake, this was a good wine. But this bottle did not express the otherworldly qualities we had hope for. Once again, there is no such thing as a great older wine, only great older bottles.

Good, but not compelling. With 10 minutes in the glass, the wine filled out a but, softened and picked up more silkiness, but more concentration and depth was needed here. Still, tasting a legendary bottle from Trotanoy was more than a treat for this Pomerol lover.
