2020 Château Saint-Pierre  (St. Julien) 94

Seductive, with loads of ripe, dark, fresh, polished, earthy, black currants, cedar, toasty oak, licorice and spice. The wine is soft, polished, fresh and focused, leaving you with layers of deep ripe fruits, a touch of coffee bean, cocoa and currants. This should age and evolve for 25 years or more. 93-95 Pts

2015 Saint-Pierre - Cassis, dark chocolate, licorice and floral notes create the perfume. Not as ripe as you’ll find in other more exalted, previous, recent vintages, this closer to being elegant in style with freshness and a spicy, cherry and cassis finish. Produced from a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 13.7% alcohol with a pH of 3.72 and is now aging in 50% new, French oak barrels. The harvest took place from September 21 to October 7. 92 - 94 Pts

The nose, with its espresso, smoke, blackberry, cedar and cigar box has a lot to offer. The palate, with more than ample blackberry, currant, cocoa and oak is round, plush, and fruity. This is a nice wine but it’s probably going to continue showing a touch of oak in its profile. 93 Points

Saint-Pierre From a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Merlot, this deep, ruby colored wine shows a cassis, oak, floral, spice and jammy black raspberry nose. On the palate, the tannic, concentrated, sweet, jammy black cherry and licorice wine shows freshness, but the tannins feel dust in the finish. The wine will be aged in 55% new oak. 92-94 Pts

2009 St. Pierre continues on its path of improvement since 2005. Because the property is not as well known as many St. Julien wines, the wine remains well priced for its quality. In fact, along with Branaire Ducru, it offers one of the better deals for fine wine from the Medoc in 2009. With deep ruby hues, the wine smells of dark berries, cassis, anise, cracked black pepper, and oak. Rich, fresh, and round, this full bodied wine finishes with lush cassis, boysenberry, spice, and chocolate flavors. 94-96 Pts. 95 Points

It is going to take a bit more time for the remainder of the oak to fully integrate. The wine has volume, depth of flavor and soft, plush, polished tannins. Full bodied, round and loaded with tobacco stained, dark red, fresh, sweet fruits, another half a decade will get this where it needs to be. 92 Points

This is the success story of St. Julien. The property was known for producing a strong wine in 1961. It took close to 45 years before they began making strong wines. Since 2005, they have been getting better every year. Chocolate, coca powder, cassis, earth, sweet black cherry and coffee bean aromas were coupled with a long, polished, cassis and blackberry filled finish that will drink well young and age for at least two decades. 92 Points

2008 Saint Pierre opens with oak, vanilla, black raspberry and chocolate scents. In the mouth, the wine feels round and approachable. The finish ends with a blast of cassis and blackberry. This is a property that keeps getting better, but sadly prices continue rising as well. 92 Pts

2003 Château Saint-Pierre  (St. Julien) 88

A bit overripe, with some heat and dryness in the tannins, the wine was much better on the nose than on the medium bodied, almost light palate. This is not a wine for further aging. While it will not fall apart in the near future, it is not a wine to hold for further evolution. 88 Points

Just past full-maturity, the wine is medium-bodied, softly textured and expresses its earthy, dark cherry, tobacco leaf and cigar box notes easily. No need to decant, just pop and pour. There is also no need to hold this any longer as it is only going to slowly fade from here. 89 Points

Tobacco, cedar wood, earth, creme de cassis and blackberry scents open to a medium/full bodied wine that is ready to drink. While pleasant and with some charm, this is not at the level of wines being produced by the St. Julien chateau today. 90 Points

1996 Château Saint-Pierre  (St. Julien) 87

With the light color of a mature wine, tobacco, spice, cedar and cassis, medium body and a slightly, drying tart, cassis finish, this wine is past its prime. The wines being made today at this St. Julien property are not in the same styleas previous vintages and show a marked increase in quality and the ability to age and evolve. 87 Points
