Vieux Château Certan (Pomerol)
A compelling vintage for VCC, while the floral, truffle, mint, tobacco and chocolate covered cherry nose is exciting, it’s the perfect balance between the wines concentration, elegance, and sensuous opulence that makes this gem standout from the pack. This is at the start of its drinking window and will age for decades. Drink from 2026-2050. 47 Views Tasted Jan 15, 2026Cherry blossoms, licorice, truffle, licorice, cherry liqueur and cocoa have no trouble getting noticed. But it is the voluptuous, decadent, opulent, unctuous mouth feel, with its velvet textures and 60 second finish that steals the show. A candidate for wine of the vintage, this is a future legend in the making. 11,668 Views Tasted May 21, 2018Fresh flowers, ripe, cherry blossoms, truffle, licorice and cocoa start off the perfume. When to Drink Vieux Chateau Certan, Anticipated Maturity, Decanting Time
Chateau Vieux Chateau Certan is much better with at least 12-15 years of aging in good vintages. Young vintages can be decanted for 2-3 hours or more.
This allows the wine to soften and open its perfume. Older vintages might need very little decanting, just enough to remove the sediment. Vieux Chateau Certan offers its best drinking and should reach peak maturity between 15-35 years of age after the vintage.
