Château de la Négly Clos des Truffiers (Coteaux du Languedoc)
Served double blind, I thought the 2001 Clos des Truffiers was a good California Syrah. With its espresso bean, licorice, black and blue fruit filled perfume, forward personality, rich textures, freshness, concentration and ripe fruits, that seemed like the perfect place to go. With time and air, the acidity became more apparent, giving the wine lift. The old vine Syrah based wine tasted much younger than I would have imagined. Clos des Truffiers, which is always produced from very low yields of ripe fruit, made its debut in 1997. The winery is owned by Bordeaux Negociant, Jeffrey Davies of Jeffrey Davies Signature Selections. This was a rare treat I'd like to see more of. 2,673 Views Tasted Aug 2, 2012 |
