2009 Big Basin Vineyards Homestead  (California) 90

From a unique blend of 46% Grenache, 43% Syrah and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine opens with a huge blast of black pepper along with jammy black and blue berry fruit. This is not a subtle style of Rhone varietals, it's in your face with a big finish stuffed with sweet, jammy, black cherry and spice. 90 Points

2008 Big Basin Vineyards Odeon  (Santa Cruz Mountains) 91

From an interesting blend of 57% Syrah and 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is inky in color. Jammy fruits, fresh cracked, black pepper, black and blue fruits make up this fat, swet, powerful wine. The finish ends with jammy fruit notes. This is not a wine for consumers that do not like ripe fruit. 91 Points
