Guigal la turque 1999

I had this wine almost a week ago as an amazing friend brought it to dinner prior to la paulee. Basically i died and went to heaven after I put this liquor of earthly delight to my lips. Waves of bacon fat, coffee, and road tar rolled over me, knocking me down. When i awoke the next morning it was a...

Re: La Paulee

Yes. Waiting for them right now. We all brought wine with us and then there's the la paulee wine. Brought some d'YQuems including a 76. My first LP. Looking foreward to the gala dinner madness and singing.

that's a great restaurant price. I guess the only thing is the provenance as Jeff has mentioned. Tell us how it went.

Michael Allen,

Clinet and Gazin are both high quality wines which are reasonably priced. They both are members of the UGC so you can taste them for next to nothing prior to purchase.

Re: "Traditional" Bordeaux Wines

don't like the Talbot either. It seems to always have the taste of stones which I find displeasing. When I was referring to the de fieuzal, I was including the cost in the analysis. It's 1/28th the cost of haut brion for the same year and I would rather drink the haut brion but its a lot easier to d...

Re: "Traditional" Bordeaux Wines

M,

Really loved the 09 de fieuzal rouge. It is packed with fruit and has adequate structure for decent balance. I can see it gaining in complexity over the years. But I would agree that it is modern but not to the point where it is glossy and filmy.

Re: 2014 ugc

I didn't take notes but I think that one had harsh tannins. I really don't remember. As to the Sauternes, I had something really strange happen: I tasted the domaine de chevalier blanc which had a massive taste of grapefruit then went to the Sauternes table and first tried the la tour Blanche which ...

Re: 2014 ugc

It's reasonable to state that these 2011 reds were not memorable, and the few wines produced with sufficient density and extract exhibited harsh tannins in the mid-palate, the finish or both. We didn't go to the VIP last year but we did this year and the 2006 Smith Haut Lafitte was really singing wi...

Re: TN 2006 Vieux Chateau Certan

Jamie, I haven't had any VCC yet but have had other pomerols like trotanoy, clinet and gazin. From the reviews it seems very rich and I recently had the 09 cos along with the 05 cos and I found the 09 too rich to enjoy, almost sickeningly sweet. Do you think VCC is sickeningly sweet and very rich? a...

Re: How do you know when a wine is closed?

I really loved the 2010 leoville poyferre presented at the UGC last year. It was showing tremendous fruit and the wine was thick but not glossy and the berry flavours almost completely hid the tannins which were only present in the finish. We just opened another bottle a few weeks ago for our office...

Re: 2012 trotanoy

Wally's doesn't have it this year. I don't like to buy from them anyway because they are expensive and are aggressive with their pricing. I also wonder what conditions they use for wine storage but then again a lot of stores store their wine in the retail section which is at least 65 and probably 70...
