Re: 2016 Bordeaux purchasing theme

Thanks for your recommendation Jeff. Last year I went for big names. I don't think that's a bad thing but doing the same thing every year will become boring for me. So for 2016 en primeur, I am buying the names whose fruit flavors I have enjoyed over the years. I don't enjoy gambling but for some re...

Re: 2016 Bordeaux purchasing theme

Yes Jeff, I have read all of your reviews. I was also thinking about buying figeac, LMHB and am waiting on prices. I have noticed that for these specific wines especially the Lynch, that scores tend to drift upwards in the better years. For 2016, critics have uniformly given Lynch a high score. Are ...

2016 Bordeaux purchasing theme

Jeff, For 2016 Bordeaux, I was thinking that my method for buying en primeur would be to stick with second tier pauillac like wines since the quality was so good and the prices are, I think reasonable. The three wines whose flavor profile I like are pichon baron, lynch bages and leoville poyferre. P...

Re: Silk road

Jeff,

How do you think the 2015 mouton stacks up against the 2010 in terms of quality and drinking window? Thanks

Re: Silk road

Guess I am wondering about the 2015 mouton. NM mentioned it might be close, in some regard to the '86 and the 2010. I have had the 2010 on three occasions and found it sublime each time. Once, it was against the 09 and 10 cos, the 09 and 10 haut brion and 09 mouton and thought the 2010 mouton really...

Re: Silk road

2015 canon is at $190 now. Makes sense based on the ratings.

Re: Silk road

Will do. Maybe I will bring the eight 2015 Bordeaux vintage wines and ask attendees to bring older years of the same wines for comparison. I hope they don't shut down by the time they get to me. Guess you will post your notes when you retaste in 2018 and get some idea how much longer they might stil...

Re: Silk road

That's a very good idea for a tasting. I will open all of the 2015 wines when they arrive. That will be about eight wines. If I invite 10 people and they all bring bottles of wine with some age on them that will be a great tasting experience with 18 bottles for 13 people. Can't wait.

Re: Silk road

Just opened a 2009 haut brion to see where it was, which was very far away from its drinking window. The palate was totally shut down. So I guess I should just forget about the 2015's and when they are delivered leave them in a corner of the basement to gather dust.

Re: Silk road

That's a good idea for a get together tasting of the 2015 Bordeaux, maybe as soon as the wines arrive prior to their shutting down. I need to find others who are purchasing the wines. Thanks for the Figeac recommendation. It's funny, the first time I had Figeac it was too young and had this creepy, ...

Re: Silk road

Jeff Wondering if these wines, especially right bank will be open for a while and how they will taste at ugc. I am not talking about wines mentioned in this thread but the 2015 vintage in general. Also do you know of any venue short of going to the chateaux themselves where the wines in this thread ...

Re: Silk road

Looking at retailer stock it looks like the pricier 2015 Bordeaux wine is not moving. But it does look like wines in the $50 to $120 range is selling in the US.

Re: Silk road

Not that I will be buying petrus or the other remaining wines of the 2015 Bordeaux en primeur campaign but it will be interesting to see what price these come out at with the brexit vote and its effect on the wine market.

Re: Silk road

Jeff, I purchased 7 of eight of the wines from the list for 2015 and the last two wines made available were ausone and cheval. I could have bought a half case of ausone and a half case of cheval but in the end I went with 14 bottles of cheval as I can follow the evolution of the wine in bottle and n...

Re: Silk road

Jeff,

The pruny, raisiny notes were identified by British tasters. I am not that turned off by these tastes. but they are pretty overwhelming in Shiraz which is one raisin I don't drink it anymore.
