I havent had domaine de chevalier more than one or two times so I dont really remember how it tastes. I see that it is very close to HB on the map. Does 2009 have alot of tobacco/burning ember flavour and is that the vintage that has the closest resemblance to HB?

2009 pessac

Just wondering if anyone had an opinion on which 2009 pessac wine under $130
has the closest flavor profile to Haut Brion (tobacco, burning embers..). Haut Bergey? La Clarence? Branon? Thanks

Just trying to be controversial. I do think sauternes become more complex with time but not as much as reds.

I would love to attend a wine event in LA. Please let me know when you have the date nailed down. Thanks david

I really just buy futures because I love the taste of young sauternes and, as I am blessed with a cellar I can follow the evolution of new wines to their maturity. Unfortunately the wines are so wonderful when young they may not make it that far! So there's only one solution...buy more wine. Its als...

Jeff,

Have you spoken with any of the other sauternes chateaux and gotten any consensus as to how the vintage will turn out? Thanks and good article. david newman

Sage advice Jeff. As to Sauternes I am still dying to go on a futures trip but I can't seem to find anyone who loves Sauternes as much as I to traipse all the way to France. And I read that bill blatch has retired but his Bordeaux gold site reads as though he is still active. The 2012 Sauternes vint...

2009 Mouton

Jeff, I read your review of the 2009 mouton and though you had some very positive things to say I didnt get the feeling the wine moved you. No superlatives or analogies. No watch checking on the finish, no waves of fruit endlessly washing up on the shore, etc. I was hoping this wine will turn into s...

Thank you kindly for remembering. I have already purchased two cases of Rabaud-promis and plan to purchase some rayne-vigneau as I prefer the Sauternes flavor profile over barsac. For 2010 I bought three cases of Sigalas Rabaud. When we were in Bordeaux we met laure's father at the winery and I tast...

thanks Jeff and I hope prices come down so we can enjoy the wines we love. There's just such a limited supply of great wine the winemakers almost have carte blanche to set prices wherever they wish. Maybe that will signal others around the world to produce wines as good or better than bordeaux.

Christer, I had a 375 of 2001 d'YQuem at restaurant La Tupina in May. I have had every year of d'YQuem back to the late sixties and I have tasted the 1921 and the 1937 and the 2001 is clearly the best of this century. Its not the most dense (1990) but it is the most balanced, with all of it's compon...

great. I dont have any pomerols in the cellar as I am just getting used to the flavour profile. My interest in wine has undergone a bizarre and meandering evolution. I actually hated wine for the first 28 years of my life, mostly believing that adults drank wine as a torturous rite of passage, that ...

Mark,

Any predictions on the trotanoy? Have you tasted it already? I have bought a half case and I understand that it won't be ready to drink for some years.
