66 Palmer

I opened my last 66 Palmer on Saturday. If I can navigate the site I will try to describe in edit. This seems to be holding. If I don't lose it all and have to re log in I will try to leave a description. Okay, so this is a legendary bottle and the 4th time I've tasted it. First time was around 1985...

Re: Bordeaux wines with lunch

I find it curious that "Brett" would account for the vast difference between the 375 ml and 750 ml bottles of 2000 Lascombes. Even the difference in "format" size would not account for this difference in taste. Provenance is crucial in all older wines, and accounts for more differences than fabricat...

Re: Dinner with a few Bordeaux and helpers

Interesting notes on some young wines. I'm glad the VCC wasn't wasted. It is often a scene stealer. I notice a lot of references to "Brett" throughout many of your notes and had to look it up to get a better understanding. You usually refer to it as a major flaw and I can see how it might be. There ...

82 Leoville las Cases

The meal began at Restaurant 1789 with a 2014 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts (1er cru) by François Carillon with a composed lobster course. The young wine showed promise and complexity, especially after breathing and warming for 15 minutes. A lovely, classy wine, but didn't impress me as much as the...

1976 La Mission Haut-Brion

I wrote a very nice description of this wine and when I went to post it, it asked me to log in again. When I did, I lost the entire contents of my post. So if I don't get knocked out again, I'll just say it was fabulous.

Boy Blake, you sure have a nice tasting group. And well-heeled too! I have been enjoying your comments, but even in my youth my limit was about 14 wines (tasted) in a night. Also I find that switching to so many categories; different regions, vintages, etc. must be exhausting. But I could not resist...

Re: 1989 CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC

I'm new to "social media" and this site, so I probably should learn how to start a new topic, but since you ask... In a nutshell the wine was fabulous. It reminded my of 2 other wines; 1953 Pichon-Lalande and 1955 L'Evangile. I will try to explain... My wine buddy was a "bachelor" a couple weeks ago...

Re: 1989 CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC

Yes, thanks Blake. The provenance was perfect. Bought new by a renown doctor and cellared in a "multi-million dollar cellar" in North Carolina until he died at age 56 and the cellar was acquired by a local merchant. The fills are in the neck and even the capsules move freely (a sign no seepage has o...

Re: 1989 CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD PAUILLAC

Thanks Blake. Your post came at a good time because I was just about to buy a couple bottles based on my love of the chateau and the vintage. I had read a number of conflicting reviews on the merits of 1989 vs 1990 (which sells for 10-50% higher quite often). Some critics were saying that the '89s a...
