Re: Northern Rhone 1997

Jeff I see your wine of the week - Mouline 91! You say one hour decant but could drink earlier and enjoy it opening up. Aeration is a big issue for me and thinking a good La La needs three hours before it delivers the ‘value’ for $’s? I’m drinking a Guigal Landonne 1997 tonight, was slightly tannic ...

Re: Northern Rhone 1997

Very brief notes on multiple NR’s. Chapoutier L’Ermite v Le Pavillon 1997 - the L’Ermite clear winner, the Pavillon slightly medicinal. Both a little disappointing when compared to D’Ampuis 99 and Rostaing Cote Blonde 98. This was close contest, the Guigal more powerful and fruity, more Robert Parke...

Northern Rhone 1997

Only had the Guigal La Landonne and the Chapoutier Le Meal Blanc, both excellent.

About to try the Chapoutier L'Ermite v Pavillon (recent purchases so standing up at the moment to allow bottles to settle down)

Does anyone have a view on other 1997's? I assume most past their peak.

Re: Blind tasting of chardonnay vs. white Burgundy

Blake Thanks for your notes. Have you tried the Kumeu range? I particularly like their Mate's. First hit upon Kumeu after Farr hosted blind tasting of Kumeu range versus top flight burgundies. Invited various experts such as Jancis and Neal Martin. The Kumeu wines came top. Agree 100% re blind tasti...

La Turque, La Mouline and Le Pavillon, all 96

Compared these 1996 wines by Coravin last few days. For such under rated vintages all surprisingly enjoyable. First surprise was how long they took to open up, need at least three hours in the glass. The Mouline and Turque very similar, the Mouline slightly more floral with greater notes of red cher...

Re: 1990 Paul Jaboulet La Chapelle Hermitage

Blake Now had this three times over last three weeks. First two bottles were similar to your notes incl red cherries but most recent bottle nosed strongly of black olives which I hadn't detected before. Did you notice any olives? In my last post I said the Somn had decanted last inch thro latest sie...

Re: 95` Guigal La Landonne, La Mouline, La Turque, more La Las, 7 champs, 6 white Burgs and much more

Blake Some great notes, thanks. Amazed the Brune et Blonde 95 drinking so well, hadn't realised it had such age ability. I drink a lot of D'Ampuis 1998 at home and think that's good value and In a lovely spot. I've tried three bottles of Mouline 95 over the last few weeks, two I'd rate at 97pts and ...

Jaboulet La Chapelle 1990

Tried last night, decanted 2 1/2 hours but kept getting better. Classic cherries, blackcurrents earthy smokey flaours with long smooth finish that belies 13.9% ABV. The Somn decanted last inch, the absolute dregs, into seperate glass via his latest sieve which he was raving about. I was extremely cy...

Re: 96 La Turque, 95 La Mouline, 95 Chave, 98 Le Meal Rouge and 97 Blanc

Thanks Jeff.

Any idea why the 96 La T should nose so strongly of vanillin? Had the 96 La Landonne a couple of days later and no obvious vanillin.

Assuming a duff bottle but what causes the wine to turn vanilla! Very atypical for a La La.

Thanks

Re: 2006 E. Guigal La Turque Cote Rotie

Thanks for your notes, I've had a few 06's and think great value vintage relatively speaking!

How long did you decant for and over what drinking window? My experience of La Las is need absolutely minimum 2 hours in the decanter before worth drinking and good vintages at least 3 hours.

96 La Turque, 95 La Mouline, 95 Chave, 98 Le Meal Rouge and 97 Blanc

On hols and tried the 96 La Turque. Sommelier opened at 6.15pm and we started drinking at 8.15pm. Vanilla totally dominated the nose! It faded slightly as the usual bacon fat, meat and red cherries tried to get a look in. By 9pm caramel was competing with the vanilla but by 9.30pm the fruit was fadi...
