Re: TN 2003 Montrose

Hi Jeff, good to be back, I had to slow down with posting for a while. I agree that a lot of the 03s are very enjoyable right now, I was just looking for a little more of the classic black tea and deep earth that time brings. Different palates, but the same love of wine. Have not had 03 Cos in quite...

TN 2003 Montrose

Note to self, do not open any more of your big 03s for at least another 5 years. While thoroughly enjoyable, this is nowhere close to being ready; and I purposely opened this particular bottle as it was the only retail wine store display bottle that I owned. All my others have been stored perfectly....

Re: TN 2001 Yquem

Jeff,I have yet to try the '75 Yquem. It's on the list, but I just blew up my budget, buying 09 Climens and Suduiraut, and 05 and 06 Angelus.

Had '75 Rieussec, which was delicious, but I am sure it is not in the league of '75 Yquem.

TN 2001 Gruaud Larose

In a great spot right now, 10 yards shy of the top of the hill and in no danger of going over any time soon. Great nose of mild green pepper, cherry, cassis, tobacco, earth, and pencil. More of the same on the palate and nicely delineated. Sorted tannins and a long, smooth finish. Well done. 93 Pts

TN 1998 Leoville Las Cases

Folks, this is a wonderful left bank 1998. Just entering maturity, you could not ask for more, especially considering the current price. I could whiff the nose all night long. Wonderful notes of faint green pepper, cedar, graphite, cassis, tobacco, and pencil that would do a Pauillac proud. Long, ri...

TN 1988 Yquem

Going from strength to strength, 1988 Yquem continues to pick up more nuance and darker complexity. Light copper in color, from 375, this is a beauty. Soaring from the glass are aromas of caramel, botrytis, crème brulee, orange rind, honey, and lush apricot. The palate follows suit with even more in...

TN 2001 Yquem

From 375, absolutely beautiful golden color. Where do I begin? For me, this is the best wine that I have ever had (and I am not a fan of the word "best" in this context, but I have no choice.) This wine is not light years ahead of everything else, but just an incredible package with virtually no fau...

We're on a roll, Jeff.

I am sitting on one lone bottle of 86 Las Cases. The first two were nowhere near ready. I sure hope that when I eventually open it, it shows like this GL did .

TN 1986 Gruaud Larose

Oh my, when this wine is on, is it magnificent or what!? First off, a huge "Thank You" to Peter at Marty's for finding this local stash. So far, this is the best lot of 86 GL that has ever passed my lips. Before the cork was even completely out, I could get a small whiff of the heavenly aromas that ...

TN 1990 Angelus

Simply spectacular. Pop and pour, and this was absolutely singing. Soaring nose of peat, earth, plum, black cherry, cinnamon, tobacco, and pencil. A nose that only time can produce. The complexity of the palate was mind blowing. Layer after layer of rich black fruit, tobacco, graphite, moist earth, ...

Folks, it is time to start popping some of your 01s. This currently is light years ahead of 00 LR. In fact, I need to start digging through my stash and find 01 Lalande and Las Cases. This 01 Lafon Rochet is in a magical spot and I do not see any improvement coming, though no rush. Essential aged St...

TN 1986 Montrose

This was the best bottle of 86 Montrose that I've had, firing on all cylinders. Classic nose of plum, cassis, wet earth, tobacco, black tea, and pencil. Same on the palate, but with greater intensity and very rich fruit - dare I say that it almost reminded me of the 89! A big, bold, and sumptuous ag...

TN 1988 Yquem

The "full monty", 88 Yquem has taken another step toward maturity, though with ages to go. This bottle was darker in color and darker in flavor than bottles from a few years ago. Great bottles of Yquem never cease to amaze me, the velvet fist, if you will. Aromas of Earl Grey, wet stones, candied cr...
