En primeur..is april too early to cast judgement ?

Hey Folks,

Any thoughts wines in bordeaux being tasted far too early after harvest. If Jeff was to start tastings later in the year as a secondary glance into the previous vintage ? ie judgement of 2010 , offered in november 2011. lets start a consumer revolution....and everyone wins..!!

Shoot me down everybody, but i think tasting raw samples of wine in April is pure folly. Bordeaux properties can well afford to show off their produce around June time..at least the malo will be complete and wine more together. But then the negociants need to get on the hard sell and shift the volum...

I think the best use for half bottles is a vessels to empty wine undrunk into from a full bottle. As Henri Jayer once said.." A bottle for one person is too much but a magnum between two is never enough ". This said, I had a nice half of Yquem 99 the other day and do think there should be more half ...

Im only worried about alcohol levels when there is a lack of TA and natural extract..I give Richaud wines at Cairanne as an example. Wines at 15 percent but well balanced and in the case of L'ebrescaude able to stand the test of time. Good terroir and microclimate coming together perhaps>>?

Dear Manfred, Hope you are feeling better. I read your article in Wine Spectator with great interest..and noticed your humbleness in a world of hype around your wines. I have been drinking and enjoying wines for a long time but never had the pleasure of trying your Syrahs etc. I wanted to in the nin...

I was working in the Pfalz from 92 -94..golden years for Riesling with 89 and 90 shining in on proceedings. I used to sell Kunsler wines when i worked in Glasgow in early nineties. They were fine. crafted rieslings then...and remain exemplary. :)

Was in NY last month for 2 Italian tasting events including alot of BRUNELLO ..Biondi was at Gala Italia and its second wines showed better at the start of the tasting. When the food hit the tables on the far side, there was a mad rush to wolf down NY chefs creations. This left me pretty much alone ...

This is a great initiative. MAYBE THE NEXT STEP will be to create a warehouse in Paris around Clichy or St Ouen purchsing fruit from Chablis . Loire, etc for Vin de Table a la Garagiste ?

Music and Winemaking

What music do you like to hear whilst pumping over or punching down caps..? Do you prefer Mozart whilst racking and topping up or ACDC whilst doing barrel activities..?

Decent Chablis

Would probably say Oudin at the moment.Great expression of chardonnay fruit and all for 12 euros max, Raveneau and Dauvissat remain references..just remember to decant younger wines and never serve to chilled as you know. Moor is turning out some decent organic offerings too. :)
