Re: International Merlot Day Tasting Notes

Delayed Report: I had a small glass of the Chateau Moulinet after opening it last night with the intention of waiting a while to drink it but I got sidetracked. So today I'm tasting it and as fortune would have it, it's significantly better than last night. The wine had the very interesting and prop...

Re: International Merlot Day Tasting Notes

Part 2: As promised....onto Pomerol. It's one day past International Merlot Day but heck....I am not done. Opened a 1995 Bon Pasteur. It's corked....darn. Going to another one now....just opened 2000 Chateau Moulinet. This is my second bottle of this wine and I really don't know much about this esta...

International Merlot Day Tasting Notes

I have two reasons to open something Merlot tonight! 1. Jeff's B-Day - and Cheers Mate BTW! 2. International Merlot Day! Item 1 means it has to be Right Bank. Item 2 is already satisfied by item 1 so there is no change in my choice for what to open. I chose the 1995 Clos De L'Oratoire from my cellar...

2006 La Peira Les Obriers De La Peira

I'm certainly not going to claim to be very experienced in tasting the wines of the Languedoc...I've had some examples but really not that many. Having tasted a few bottles of Chateau de la Negly several years ago, that really opened my eyes for this area. Since then, I've put a few wines from that ...

Sale of Chateau La Clotte

That is very interesting news Jeff! I think it was you who originally got me interested in trying a bottle of wine from this tiny producer in St. Emilion. La Clotte can be a really fantastic wine based on my limited exposure to a handful of vintages.....to name one example, the 2008 vintage was an o...

I opened a bottle today (July 4th) as a lab experiment as well as I was looking for something interesting to share with family. This bottle today was from the batch I originally bought long ago and has been kept cold. I have a second batch purchased about 3 years ago. After today, I think the wines ...

Jamie you know I love this wine and vintage also. I agree with Jeff in that it is now aging faster than I would have guessed from tasting it 2-3 years back. I'm sure it will last a few more years nicely but it will be interesting to see if it improves any from here. I've also noticed a little bottle...

Indeed Jeff it was your article that brought this news to my attention. I own quite a few vintages of all 3 wines with Clos Fourtet being the one I own the most of followed by Close St. Martin and finally Grand Murailles as it's a little hard to find. The minerality/limestone signature in these wine...

News! 3 St. Emilion Chateau sold to the Cuvelier Family of Clos Fourtet

This is a very interesting development in St. Emilion.........in particular, the properties of Clos Fourtet, Clos St. Martin and Grand Murailles. These three Chateaus are right next to each other. I am quite familier with all 3 properties and I would share these thoughts.......Clos Fourtet has been ...

Livin large like your usual Jamie!!!! I've had this one too but it was a couple years back. I remember the wine was a very long way from being ready as you have also noted. I also remember we let our bottle breath for about 3 hours in a big decanter after a quick small sample. Heck I even think the ...

I really liked the Poujeaux in 09. I bought two cases based on that. Another really fine example from 09 is the Clos Manou....sipping on it right now. Just beautiful stuff. Two winners.

2009 Chateau Laforge

Impressive wine this is. It needs 3 to 4 hours of air at this point before you really can understand what it's all about. Very full bodied and lots of fruit weight. The blackberry fruit is sweet and the tannins are prominent but it's pure silk. I like the balance on this wine.....very close to just ...

Jeff, I know you have tried this wine at least a handfull of times now based on notes in your database.....I was fortunate to taste this wine 3 times in the last 2 weeks. It's crazy impressive but it's not typical Bordeaux. I am the last person to say a Bordeaux is California-like but this one is th...

Hi Jeff, I'm just catching up on your first couple reports for this year's trip. Tough job there but somebody's got to do it !!!! I'm over in Europe myself at the moment for work and planning to sneak over to Piedmonte in a week on the way back to the US. I am very curious as to what the 2011 Bordea...

Jeff, I had already purchased plenty of the 09 futures from EP and quite a number of them were scored big last week. I also did add a few more bottles after RP's 2nd scores a few days ago.....focused on some mid priced stuff that I had been contemplating in the past. In this vintage I tried to buy s...
