Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Réserve des Deux Frères (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)
Drinking at peak, this beauty popped with black pepper, mushroom, garrigue, grilled beef and ripe cherries. Soft, lush and filled with fruit, the finish served up the perfect blend of earth, herbs and peppery kirsch. 3,194 Views Tasted Aug 9, 2020Mature, full-bodied and intense. The initial sip was a bit hot, but that quickly faded. The wine offers a wealth of ripe, dense, dark, red, spicy fruits, herbs and some chocolate that tastes, smells and feels great. The old vine intensity really comes through. Not decanted, the wine is a pop and pour. I doubt it will improve and while there is no real hurry to drink this, I will opt for finishing my bottles over the next 3-4 years. 2,262 Views Tasted Sep 26, 2019Really showing well, there is so much garrigue, you feel like you're in Provence. Add the barnyard, kirsch, pepper, mint and wild, red fruits with the rich, plush textures and you get the idea. This is truly in the sweet spot. 3,683 Views Tasted May 18, 2017Fresh, bright, spicy, peppery, black raspberries, garrigue, kirsch and wild strawberry pop with no effort. Soft, elegant and showing its stuff, this is drinking well today. There is no sensation of heat, even though the wine reached 16.2. However, at this point, I prefer how the Mon Aieul is showing. 3,351 Views Tasted Aug 21, 2016At 16.2% ABV, there is not a touch of heat. You're too busy enjoying the rich, peppery, sweet, black raspberry, garrigue, strawberry jam, spice and earth. Rich and mouth filling, this is drinking perfectly today. I'd guess it's good for at least 10-12 more years. 3,705 Views Tasted Feb 2, 2014Intense, full bodied, concentrated, rich and packed with kirsch, ripe strawberry and black raspberry, pepper, spice, black cherry and fennel, the wine is open and offering a sensuous, Chateauneuf du Pape tasting experience. 3,757 Views Tasted Aug 13, 2012 |
When to Drink Domaine Pierre Usseglio, Anticipated Maturity, Decanting Time
Domaine Pierre Usseglio can be enjoyed on the young side with 1-2 hours of decanting. This allows the wine to soften and open its perfume. Older vintages might need very little decanting, just enough to remove the sediment.
Domaine Pierre Usseglio is usually better with 3-5 years of bottle age. Of course that can vary slightly, depending on the vintage. In the best vintages the wine should be consumed within 5-18 years after the vintage.
