At age 30, this is in the perfect place to experience its soft, silky, fresh, sweet, red and black fruit pleasures. Elegant, medium/full bodied, with a complex nose and regal, cherry toned finish, there is no reason to pull a cork if you have a bottle. This bottle showed a bit better than some examples as it came directly from the chateau and had not been moved since it was bottled.

A pronounced smell of violets, black raspberries, earth, tobacco and cherry open to a soft, voluptuous, round wine. Probably close to fully mature, this is drinking in its sweet spot. The only minor drawback might be a bit of rusticity in the tannins and a hint of green herbs in the otherwise, sweet, cherry finish.

Earth, smoke, tobacco, cassis, herbs, truffle, tobacco and an odd sensation of tomato created the aromatics. The wine is sweet, soft and round, but there was a bit of roughness to the tannins with a minor touch of green in the cassis and blackberry dominated finish. Even with its faults, or virtues, depending on what you like in a wine, this charming Bordeaux wine is ready to drink and offers a lot of pleasure.

This is the perfect time to catch this medium/full bodied wine. With its tobacco, truffle, smoke, forest floor, blackberry, leaf and earthy perfume, soft, elegant, refined textures and long, sweet, velvety finish, this is drinking beautifully today. I'd drink it over the next 10-15 years.

5 Spice, truffle, cassis, tobacco, olives, blackberry and forest aromas lead to a soft textured entry. On the palate, this fully mature, plush Margaux wine is concentrated with elegant layers of round, dark berries, hints of red fruit and a minor touch of greeness in the finish. I'm not sure this has much room to improve, but this delightful Margaux should remain at this level for at least another 15 or more years.

Coconut, herbs, cherry, tobacco and earthy scents are easy to find. This concentrated, fully mature Bordeaux wine offers a long, blackberry, spice and cassis filled finish. But some rusticity in the tannins takes away from the otherwise outstanding Bordeaux wine.

Cassis, black fruits and cedar aromas greet your nose and the rich ripe fruit please your palate. Very silky and rich, but, lacking the concentration of the great years.

The perfume is intoxicating and the palate enjoys a long, concentrated finish of silky, dense, ripe fruit. Very classy. This will last and continue evolving for at least another 20 years

This wine combined the floral Margaux notes with velvety, Pomerol textures. Rich, fleshy, opulent and graceful. Still young, this will get better with age.

When to Drink Chateau Margaux, Anticipated Maturity, Decanting Time

Chateau Margaux is not a wine to drink on the young side. The wine is usually far too tannic, powerful, and reserved during its youth. Young vintages can be decanted for an average of 3-6 hours, give or take. This allows the wine to soften and open its perfume. Older vintages might need very little decanting, just enough to remove the sediment.

Chateau Margaux is usually better with at least 15 years of bottle age. Of course, that can vary slightly, depending on the vintage character. Chateau Margaux offers its best drinking and should reach peak maturity between 18 and 60 years of age after the vintage.

Serving Chateau Margaux with Wine, Food, Pairings

Chateau Margaux is best served at 15.5 degrees Celsius, 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The cool, almost cellar temperature gives the wine more freshness and lift.

Chateau Margaux is best paired with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised, and grilled dishes. Chateau Margaux is also good when matched with Asian dishes, rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta.

The white wine of Chateau Margaux, Pavillon Blanc can be paired perfectly with all types of seafood, shellfish, sushi, sashimi, veal, chicken, pork, and assorted cheeses.
