Château Calon-Ségur (St. Estèphe)
It is not often a wine is better on the palate than the nose. But due to a marked VA note, that's what took place here. Opened to celebrate my fathers birthday, once past the nose, the wine was still delivering an earthy, tobacco, forest, herbal, leaf and full-bodied, cherry note on the palate. I was surprised by how much volume and depth remained for a wine that's close to 85 years of age. 2,570 Views Tasted Oct 13, 2018 |
When to Drink Chateau Calon Segur, Anticipated Maturity, Decanting Time
Chateau Calon Segur needs time before it begins to show its true character. Calon Segur needs at least 10-15 years of aging in good vintages until it is ready to be enjoyed. Young vintages can be decanted for 2-4 hours or more. This allows the wine to soften and open its perfume.
Older vintages might need very little decanting, just enough to remove the sediment. Chateau Calon Segur offers its best drinking and should reach peak maturity between 15-50 years of age after the vintage.
