Default TN 1995 Leoville Las Cases

Back in the early eighties there was a great new wave band called "Wall of Voodoo." Well, I have a nickname for the 95 Las Cases: "Wall of Tannin." Yikes! I can usually deal with prominent tannin quite well, but this was just over the top. I still believe that this will become an excellent wine, but this is one tough 1995. A shy nose of graphite, cherry, oak, and pencil. Not giving up much. The palate is more rich, and offers cassis, cherry, tobacco, leather, and pencil. But then those tannins kick in and deter from what is usually such a nice finish with Las Cases. If you have this wine, please let it sleep for another 5 years, probably 10. I do think that the fruit will hold up. For now - 93 Pts

Jamie... I think I liked 1995 Leoville Las Cases a little more than you did. I actually enjoyed drinking it, although, I agree, it's going to get better with age. Las Cases could be one of the longest lived wines in Bordeaux these days.

I had the '95 from a 375 last year and it was only just starting to poke its head above the parapet. I wonder how long it'll take for wines like this, the Mouton, Barton, etc to come around...
