1989 Mouton
1989 Ch. Mouton Rothschild
First, I`am not this kind of person who is hugely impressed by a bottle of Mouton. I had too many disappointing&mediocre bottles in the last years. But this `89 celebrates the Mouton-myth. Several years ago I had already a `89 with Jeff Leve in Berlin which was very good, but didnīt touch my heart. In contrast a bottle of 89 Montrose side-by-side played in another league, really a WOW wine.
Noblesse oblige, here we have the essence of aristocrazy..........elegance with no end. Amazing length with a velvet texture, BALANCE with flavors of coffee, hazelnut, noble wood and spice. Give me more..........
95/100

Hi Martin... I remember that wine, and the night! Those were the good old days when opening a First Growth was a pleasure.... I'm glad you liked this 1989 Mouton Rothschild. I think I have been a lot less impressed with it over the years. It's nice, but I'd rather have Pichon Lalande, Lynch Bages or Pichon Baron from the same vintage, Less money for a better wine.

FG's are too expensive indeed, even so, I really enjoy Mouton, one of my favorite estates. I love that exotic spiciness on Pauillac fruit. Get to taste them way to rarely these days.....
