I had a 375 of 2001 d'YQuem at restaurant La Tupina in May. I have had every year of d'YQuem back to the late sixties and I have tasted the 1921 and the 1937 and the 2001 is clearly the best of this century. Its not the most dense (1990) but it is the most balanced, with all of it's components singing in unison. The good acidity really props up all the flavours and makes them vibrant and clearly delineated. Enjoy

I had this great Yquem in april 2009 :

Sauternes : Château d’Yquem 2001
13,6° d'alcool - 150gr sucre résiduel - acidité totale 4,55g LH2SO4/SO2 total : 349mg/L/Extrait sec : 203 g/L
Grande puissance aromatique restituant peu à peu, le vin s'ouvrant dans le verre, des senteurs prenantes, dopées par une volatile conséquente : noix de coco, ananas, poire au sirop, tabac blond, citron confit, sauge, agrumes (mandarine, marmelade d'orange). Boisé satisfaisant, présent mais ne prenant pas le pas sur l'expression aromatique.
Bouche impressionnante, très corpulente mais pas saturante, nette, harmonieuse, corsée. Elle devrait aller très loin.

Yquem 2009 and Yquem 1988 (tatsed at the domain) are great too (Yquem 2007 and Yquem 1997 a step behind, in the wonderful sweet panel offered by Sandrine Garbay at the domain in june 2010).

2001 Chateau d'Yquem is my favorite vintage of Yquem since the always perfect 1975! It is a stunning Sauternes and at least IMO, the benchmark for sweet, Bordeaux wine. See my tasting notes here. Yquem

Yquem is for me the all time high, even better than the 67 and 28 that I have tasted. Especially 28 is gorgeous. I'm somewhat surprised that you love the 75 Jeff (so do I) but that is just pure elegance, I would have thought it to bee to lean for you? The 1990 is a bit of a blockbuster, hiding it's nuances. From the 80's, the 86 is my favorite. I have tasted it twice beside the 01, and it's not that far off. The 07 is superb, and also the 2010. I have a week spot for the somewhat forgotten 97 as well, I bought a few as it was talked about as one great Yquem upon release, then nobody have mentioned it since.... But I've tasted it more or less every two years or so, and I love it. I like the delicate style of the 98 as well. The 04 has a gorgeous freshness to it. 89 is on the rough side for me, and I find this in many 89 Sauternes. 88 has some sort of tartness that I also find in many other estates of the vintage. It's almost like tannins or something....
