This 2001 ist not an 100pts. wine at the moment, but no doubt here we have a legend. A beauty from Thousand and One Nights, exotic, dark, seductive and in addition a walk through a spice shop. Endless length and a stunning complexity. Perfect wine for a candlelight dinner.........

I know this wine. When I first tasted it on release, the 2001 Guigal La Mouline seemed to acidic and bright. A few years of bottle age changed my mind. It is showing great today! Your description and conclusions are 100% perfect! In fact, I might be inspired to open a La Mouline this weekend. Perhaps either 1994 or 1997. Have you had either lately?

Your description and conclusions are 100% perfect! In fact, I might be inspired to open a La Mouline this weekend. Perhaps either 1994 or 1997. Have you had either lately?

I am a BIG fan of Guigal, and of course the best vintages are almost religious experiences - I almost faint when drinking 99 mouline or 03 Turque, and then we havent even mentioned the old vintages - but they are very expensive, and therefor my little secret is the 04 Landonne and Mouline - they are AMAZING wines, both IMHO better than 95,97,00, 01,02 and maybe even 06 (had the 06 landonne several times, and it might absorb all that wood but for now it is almost undrinkable). The 98´s are better than the 04´s , but only slightly and they are getting more and more disapointing considering pricetag and RP rating.

Hi Michael... It is good to see you here. Thank you for your first post! We agree on Guigal. Although, perhaps now I should be upset because after reading your post, I want to taste 2004 Guigal. But I do not own any.

1997 has been my secret Guigal La La vintage for years. The wines are great and in a beautiful style and for Guigal, they are fairly priced. We agree 1000% on 1998. 1998 La Mouline, 1998 La Turque and 1998 La Landonne are beautiful and for Guigal, they are also fairly priced.

I am opening a La Mouline this weekend for my girlfriend. She has not had one yet. She tasted her first Cote Rotie with me a few weeks ago, 1999 Ogier and she loved it!

Thanks for the tips. Guigal single vineyard Cote Rotie are wines that I have not been able to taste yet. I have been trying to figure out which bottle to buy first as a good introduction without spending $500+

Scott... The Guigal La La's are pricey. But at least in my view, they are one of the few high-end wines that always offer an experience in taste, flavor and texture that's worth the price of admission. 1997 is a very vintage strong vintage for La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne. The wines are ready to drink and you should be able to find them for about $350. All three wines are good, but the 1997 La Mouline is my favorite of the trio.

I live in New Jersey. Over the past 2 years I've been buying most of my wine off of Winebid. I've seen some fairly reasonable prices on Guigal there, considering the going rate. I will keep an eye out for 97 and look for a good deal.
