I would be interested in knowing what people's opinion of Argentine malbec is. Do you have any favourites and why? Are there any particular wineries that stand out regarding this varietal? And lastly what food pairings have you experienced or think would go well with this varietal?
Thanks,
Chrissie

I generally prefer argentinian malbecs to chilean wines (generally too sweet).
Some interesting encounters :
Poesia 2005 (60% malbec, 40% syrah)
Clos des Andes 2005
Cheval des Andes 2001
Bodega Catena Zapata - Saint-Felicien "Tributo al 2do Centenario 1810-2010 2007 (200 years anniversary)

Hi Chrissie
I enjoy Poseia and Monteviejo. I taste those wines because they are owned by Bordeaux wine makers. I am also a fan of authentic bottles of the famous 1977 Wienart.

Been exploring South American wines and found some amazing whites at The Wine Shop. Love some recommendations.

Some malbecs and malbec blends I've grown very fond of recently:
2007 Cuvelier los Andes Grand Vin (Leoville-Poyferré Argentine estate)
2008 Quatro Primos, Familia Mayol (Blend of malbec, cabernet, syrah and bonarda)
2009 Quimera, Bodegas Achaval Ferrer (Blend malbec, cabernet, merlot) This is very serious wine.
2004 "Limited" Bodegas Enrique Foster.
All of these are relatively small production wines with great character.
