2001 Ch. Angélus

60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet franc. Nicely developped already and clearly at its prime drinking window. Classic Angélus......full-bodied with a sweet&ripe Merlot driven fruit and truffle, leather&tobacco with a hint of port. In addition your palate will be coated in velvet. Interestingly 2 friends discovered some hint of brett incl. animalstic touch. Not me. Here in Europe a steal for 100 Euro. I love this sexy hedonistic style.......

93-94pts.

Thanks for note Martin, think 2001 is a very underrated vintage in Bordeaux, and a number of wines are drinking really great now. Favourites include Leoville Barton,Lynch Bages ,Montrose and La Conseillante.

I agree that many 01's are starting to drink nicely, but they are in the very early stage of their drinking window, so if one likes more evolved aromas, I would still wait for most of them. Angelus 01 for me is in another 3-5 years I think....

Tasted recently in a double blind tasting event:

Château Angelus 2001 (France, Bordeaux, Libournais St. Émilion Grand Cru)

Deep, dark ruby to black in color and contain some sediment. Nose of rich black fruits, dusty leaves. Black cherry, plum, mulberry at the attack. Immediately afterwards, the herbaceous tones and green pepper weights in. Some spices, leather and earth nuances were also noticed. Full-bodied, pronounced tannins and long finish.
