2006 Bordeaux wines are tannic, long term aging wines in most cases. The wines are classic, broad shouldered, powerful and often masculine. They demand time. Reports of the quality produced in Pomerol are overstated in my view. There are some very fine 2006 Bordeaux wines from Pomerol. But in most cases, the style of the vintage is not well-suited for Pomerol. 2005 and 2009 remain the vintage to buy. Some wines from the Medoc are outstanding. Pontet Canet is great example and if you have the money, 2006 Mouton Rothschild, with its flamboyant style showed a return to greatness for that First Growth chateau.
