Dark in color, the array of floral notes shoot out with violets, lilacs, and roses. From there you find truffle, red and black fruits, cigar box and cedar also come through in the nose. While the perfume is catchy, it is on the palate where the wine takes off. Texturally, the wine is drenched in velvet. There is intensity, richness, and concentration, as well as weightlessness on the palate. With this wine, the seamless finish must be felt, as well as tasted. The wine is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot. This marks the highest percentage of Cabernet in the blend and with 17% press wine in the blend, it is the highest portion of press wine as well. 14.5% ABV, 3.7 pH. The harvest took place September 2 - September 28. This is the earliest start to a harvest for Rauzan Segla. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. The Grand Vin was produced from 50% of the harvest. Drink from 2027-2065. 96-98 Pts.

The complex aromatics here pop with dried flowers, espresso, cigar wrapper, spice, brown sugar and an array of red with black fruits. The wine is elegant, refined, fresh, silky and fresh. The fruits are sweet, pure, refined and defined. In fact, this is so good, it would be a success in any vintage. But, in 2021, it is a screaming success and is clearly one of the wines of the vintage! Drink from 2026-2052.

With a nice richness to the color, the wine opens with lilies, roses, coffee bean, Indian spice and black plums. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, elegant, refined and silky. There is freshness and energy, along with a nice sweetness to the fruits. There is a touch of chalk at the backend of the finish. You will be able to enjoy this in its youth, which is not always the case here with this age-worthy Margaux. The wine was produced from blending 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, 13% ABV. The harvest took place September 20 to October 8. Drink from 2025-2050. 94-96

Silky, seductive and sensuous, the nose, with its blend of flowers, tobacco leaf, espresso bean, violets, roses and red pit fruits is already quite showy. Medium/full-bodied, fresh, vibrant, clean and pure, the fruit offers length, depth and complexity. But it will need a bit of time to fully express its essence. If you have a bit of patience, it will be worth the wait. Drink from 2030-2060.

A contender for the finest vintage of Rauzan Segla ever produced, the wine hits all the right notes starting with its complex perfume which is already showing off its lilacs, violets, tobacco leaf, forest floor, espresso and array of red and black fruits. On the palate, the wine really shines due to its depth of flavor, power, concentration, sensuous, elegant textures and its silk and velvet wrapped finish clocking in at 60 seconds, or more. Give it ten years or just a bit longer and this beauty will shine for 2-3 decades after that. The wine blends 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot 14% ABV.

Inky garnet with purple accents in the hue, the depth of color reveals only part of the story. The perfume, with its violets, espresso, smoke, tobacco leaf and a sea of stand out ripe, dark red fruits ranging from blackberry to plum. On the palate, the wine is plush, dense and full-bodied yet it glides. Already expressive in the nose and mouth, the finish matches perfectly with its outstanding level of purity, extract and freshness. Is this better than the majestic 2015 or the strong 2016? Perhaps it is! I'm waiting for a blind tasting. Give it ten years or just a bit longer and this beauty will shine for decades after that. One of the top wines of the appellation, this gorgeous, soft, polished, silky, fresh, charmer comes with loads of ripe, lush, sweet fruit. The entry is soft, clean and fresh. The mid-palate and finish leave with the impression of ripe, dark red and black, elegantly style fruits. This could take at least a decade before it starts showing its best.

Still young, but you can find hints of tobacco leaf, truffle, herbs and flowers poke through the ripe, red and dark red fruits. The wine is concentrated, silky, uplifting and generous, as well as long, fresh pure. This wine will need 12-15 years before it really starts opening and showing its true essence.

The intense floral display in the nose is on fire and is made even better with the addition of sweet currants, smoke, blackberries, and earth. As good as the perfume is, it is on the palate, with its layers of silky, energetic, rich, elegant red and black fruits that is the show stopper here. Still young, but in a nice place to pop a cork if you prefer wines more on the fruit, than on the secondary side. Drink from 2023-2055.

Incredibly polished and silky on the palate, the wine is deep, concentrated, luscious and sexy. Even though this is just a baby in terms of its evolution, the wine already offers flowers, spice box, licorice and sweet blackberry aromas. Full bodied, with the tanninsnd structure to age for decades, the wine offers purity of fruit, energy and complexity. The finish remains with you for at least 50 seconds! This could be the best wine the estate has ever produced.

I've tasted this wine multiple times, from barrel and bottle, and each time it has shown improvement. Liquid silk on the palate, the wine is deep, concentrated, luscious and sexy. It is full bodied, with the tannins to age for decades. But these tannins are velvet textured. The wine offers purity of fruit, energy and complexity. This could be the best wine the estate has ever produced.

On target to place among the top wines ever produced at Rauzan Segla, this wine has it all. Florals, fruit, freshness, silky textures and a decadent, hedonistic personality. This should hit the top of my score range with ease.

A very good wine for the vintage. Produced in a forward, up front style, the wine offers soft textures, medium body and a fresh, sweet, bright, cherry and plum profile, with earth and flowers tossed in for complexity. This will improve with a few years of bottle age.

This was good in the barrel, but it’s so much better in the bottle with its complex nose of floral, black cherry, truffle, thyme and black plum aromas. Full bodied, rich and concentrated, with silky smooth tannins and freshness that lingers on your palate. Offered at a fair price, coupled with the ability to age and develop, if you like Margaux, this deserves a place in your cellar.

This would be a nice wine in any vintage, but it's a true accomplishment in 2011. Truffle, earth, plums, black cherry and spice aromas come to the surface with ease. The fruit is bright, with good freshness and balance, finishing with sweet, ripe berries. The wine demands at least 5 years in the cellar before showing what it has to offer.

There is a beautiful sense of symmetry in this wine. With just enough layers of intense, concentrated, ripe, fresh, juicy berries, the wine pops with freshness, elegance and strength. Not as exotic as the 2009, it’s more powerful, concentrated, tannic, bright and perhaps, complex. This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 3.5% Petit Verdot and 1.5% Cabernet Franc produced a wine that will demand cellaring. My guess is, patient consumers are going to be rewarded with pleasure.

Rauzan-Segla - Only 45% of the crop was used in the Grand Vin. Produced from an assemblage of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 14% ABV, which is slightly higher than they achieved in 2009. Alluring scents of fresh flowers, truffle, cassis and jammy black plums combine with silk and velvet textures to produce an opulent, powerful, sensuous Margaux that coats your mouth with sensations of supple tannin and intense purity. When comparing this with the highly regarded 2009, it is not a question of quality or score, it’s a matter of style. The 2009 is more sensuous, while the 2010 offers more power and lift from higher acidity. 94-96 Pts.

The 2009 is more sensuous, while the 2010 offers more power and lift from higher acidity. 94-96 Pts.

The truffle, cigar box, cedar, floral, citrus and dark red fruit notes are almost at their secondary stage. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, silky, fresh, rich and supple. The berries and floral character with their sweetness and lift feels as good as it tastes. With 2 hours in the decanter, this is a stunner, else wait about 5 more years and drink over the next 2 decades with ease.

Once past the label, this stunning Margaux has it all going on! From a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot, this delicious, sexy textured woine features layers of juicy ripe, opulent, pure berries. The wine has depth, concentration and freshness. The perfume grabs your attention with its floral, spice, truffle, stone and cassis scents, this is a serious Margaux that will age and develop for decades. This is the best young Rauzan Segla I have ever tasted! Although, the 2010 will give it a run for the money, in a different style.

With a shifting in color to show its maturity, the wine opens with tobacco, cedar, herbs, Christmas spice and forest notes to accompany the red fruits. Medium/full bodied, with a classic leaning, the tannins are just starting to soften. The fruit is a bit strict on the palate at this moment. In time, perhaps, 5-8 years, the wine should develop softer textures, along with more aromatic complexity.

Showing it's age in color, the wine offers cigar box, cedar wood, and tobacco with cassis on the back end. Medium bodied, almost light on the palate, the wine is elegant, fully mature and ready for consumption. Not a wine of density, it's still a wine of pleasure that does not warrant further age or much more than splash decanting.

With a nose that is showing secondary development, cedar, truffle, cigar box, lead pencil and cassis notes are easy to find. On the palate, the wine is earthy, fresh and polished, leaving you with a tannic, crisp, dark plum and cassis finish with a hint of truffle on the palate. This is good now, but will be even better with 5 more years in the bottle. The wine was made from a blend 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.

Showing some lightness in color, with truffle, tobacco, earth, cigar box, licorice and black fruits in the nose. Sleepy, but not closed, this structured, age worthy wine needs serious air or another 5-10 years, before it truly starts to show all its considerable, soft, supple charms and complexities.

At close to 10 years of age, secondary notes of smoke, tobacco, caramel, blackberry, forest floor and cassis are easy to find. Long, fresh and balanced, there is a beautiful sense of purity in the fruit that pairs perfectly with the soft, ripe tannins in the finish. Still young, this is only starting to wake up and should age gracefully for at least 2 decades or more.

Flowers, smoke, cassis, pepper, blackberry and tobacco aromatics are meshed with a concentrated wine that offers a rich texture. The finish with its minor hint of green from underripeness detracts a little bit, from the experience. Still young, another 5-10 years will add a lot to. the wine

Medium full bodied, firm, even a little bit on the brawny, classic side, side, the nose gets you going with its floral, tobacco, earth and blackberry notes. On the palate, the tannic, soild wine needs a few more years in the hopes that it will soften and flesh out just a bit more.

Young, tight and tannic, this requires another 5-10 years before it add more complexity to its tobacco, earth, spice, cassis, floral, stone and fresh cut herb filled nose. Masculine in style, the wine ends with a blast of fresh, berries, cassis and cranberry. This wine is more about potential than pleasure today. Give it time.

A lighter style of Margaux, that offers a delicate, complex nose, and a bright, fresh, red fruit and earthy palate presence. This should improve, but it does not have a long future.

Truffle, tobacco, fresh picked blackberry and earthy notes open to a medium/full bodied wine that hovers on the austere, or should I say, classic side of the style range. With 3 hours of air, the wine softened, and developed aromatic complexities, but it remained an old school, classic style that could use a bit more charm. It's not about the quality, it's about the style. Either give it another 5 years of bottle age, or 3-4 hours of air, if you're thinking of popping a cork.

Very classic in nature, tannic, masculine, lean and built to age, this is not much fun to drink, even at close to 17 years of age. Knowing the property, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt, but it's going to take at least another 10-15 years to come around. Buyers should be patient, young and have a preference for fresher, tannic, old school styled Bordeaux wine.

Medium-bodied, firm, structured and bordering on austere, the wine is better on the earthy, tobacco, cedar, smoke, cherry and forest infused nose than on the crisp, bright, classic palate. The wine is firm and fresh, with an herbal, leafy leaning to the fruit. Those with a love for truly classic Bordeaux will be more fond of this wine than I am.
