The finish reminds of eating fresh, juicy plums while smoking a fabulous, aged Cuban cigar! This St. Emilion wine at close to 50 years is probably not going to improve. But it is no danger of falling apart, as the wine remained strong for over 2 hours in the glass! This could be the rarest wine I have ever tasted. It was my fist tasting of any wine from the year that is best known for the brutal frost that destroyed much of the Bordeaux vineyards. Served blind, I thought it was an early 60's or late 50's wine from a moderate vintage. Close to the color of a rose hip tea, filled with spice, leather, truffle, forest, coffee and crushed stone scents, this medium bodied wine ended with a strawberry, dark cherry finish.
