TN: 2000 Smith Haut Laffite
Well the 2000 BDXs are still showing tight for the most part. The 00 Smith Haut Laffite seems to be coming out of it's shell......at least a bit. After an hour decant, it still was muted on the nose but started to give a bit on the palate. Nice flavors of cherry, cedar, leather and tobacco. A bit thin and clipped on the finish. Somewhat hollow on the midpalate. I'd like to think this will continue to improve. It's showing much better than it did just one year ago. 92pts and hoping for 95pts at it's peak....but that could be quite some time. If you want an open for business killer 2000 BDX, go with the Pavie. Simply stunning BDX and the best that I've had from the vintage.

2000 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte;
Deep ruby with ruby rim. Mineral, almost flinty touch over blackcurrants, leather and coffeebeans. Fresh and lively, ripe tannins, starting to show development, very elegant, balanced and complex, and fantastic length. Keep at least another ten years. 90
This is my note, from April 2010, the last time I tasted it.

Hi Justin
Good to see you here. I look forward to you being our resident Sine Qua Non poster! If you like 2000 Smith Haut Lafitte, the 2009 will blow you out of the water! Look around for a deal on it from someplace. I doubt it will go up in price, so there is no hurry. However, it's a strong wine and worth owning.

I agree, both red and white SHL 09 was amazing. I love the dry white of this estate, tasted the superb 07 a couple of times last week actually, beautifull. (the red as well, a very refreshing and elegant 07!)
